Racing Incident Report

RAMPANT LION was withdrawn on 15.6.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory disease) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter NEW TAMAR (Apprentice P H Lo). Before being allowed to race again, RAMPANT LION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KING OF SPADES was slow to begin. A PLUS FIT was slow to begin and then tailed out. The performance of A PLUS FIT was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, A PLUS FIT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KNIGHT TEMPLAR began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HURRICANE WAY. On jumping, SINOSPIEL and FISHKING EXCELLENT bumped. Making the Home Turn, SILVERBIRD was bumped and carried wider by HURRICANE WAY which at this time shifted to the outside of SINOSPIEL. On straightening, FISHKING EXCELLENT and KNIGHT TEMPLAR bumped. For a considerable distance after straightening, KING OF SPADES had difficulty obtaining clear running, then close to the line again had difficulty obtaining clear running. Because of this, KING OF SPADES was not fully tested or ridden out to the line as it normally would be. After the 200 Metres, SWEET BABY hung in. For some distance after the 200 Metres, LUCKY YEARS had difficulty obtaining clear running between MAIN ATTRACTION and SWEET BABY. W M Lai (WISHING WELL) explained his mount began well, he did not ride along in the early stages as in the past when ridden to go forward the horse had proved difficult to settle. He said because he did not ride along, FISHKING EXCELLENT, LUCKY YEARS and SINOSPIEL were able to improve on his inside. He said as a consequence in the early stages WISHING WELL travelled in a three wide position. He said WISHING WELL after the 1400 Metres proved difficult to settle as he endeavoured to steady his mount to obtain a position with cover. He said after the 1200 Metres MAIN ATTRACTION and SWEET BABY improved on his outside, however, crossed to race in the lead and as a consequence he continued to travel without cover. He said in the Straight WISHING WELL failed to finish the race off. He did say when he had ridden WISHING WELL in the lead on 27 May 2007, the horse on that occasion proved difficult to settle and ran poorly. He said it was for this reason he did not allow WISHING WELL to stride forward in the early stages today. A PLUS FIT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of A PLUS FIT after the race did not show any significant findings. SINOSPIEL, SHOW BRAVELY and SILVERBIRD were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 18 June 2007)
A PLUS FIT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. A PLUS FIT was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer C S Shum this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a stiff and restricted action. As previously advised, A PLUS FIT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
