Racing Incident Report

At declaration time, G Mossé was declared as the rider of both FUN and INSIDER. It was established that G Mossé had a firm commitment to ride FUN. As such, the Stewards permitted D Whyte to be substituted as the rider of INSIDER. Mr C S Shum, trainer of INSIDER, was fined $2,000 for this error. LUCKY TYCOON was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards lost further ground when checked as a result of being crowded for room between SOLDIER ON and SHINING DRAGON which on jumping shifted out abruptly. When being straightened, SHINING DRAGON also lost ground. GANBARIA began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped FUN. Near the 1100 Metres, GANBARIA and INSIDER bumped. In the early stages, HEADINGLEY from the outside barrier was allowed to drift back to a position to obtain cover and then making the turn after the 600 Metres hung out. Near the 900 Metres, RICH DRAGON became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of SOLDIER ON. Prior to straightening, RICH DRAGON was steadied when following LUCKY TYCOON and inside the heels of KING CREOLE. Throughout the race, KINGSTON WINNER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of GANBARIA, Y T Cheng said the horse was inconvenienced in the early stages and he therefore was required to ride along to obtain a forward position as instructed. He said in the middle stages GANBARIA after crossing to race outside the leader travelled comfortably, however, in the Straight when placed under pressure did not respond to his riding. He was unable to offer an explanation for the performance of GANBARIA. GANBARIA was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GANBARIA after the race did not show any significant findings. D Whyte (INSIDER) said his mount did not feel comfortable making the first turn and travelled keenly, resulting in his saddle shifting forward on top of the horse’s wither. He said because of this he was at a disadvantage in riding INSIDER, then in the Straight the horse felt restricted in its action. INSIDER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of INSIDER after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, INSIDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FUN and KING CREOLE were sent for sampling.
