Racing Incident Report

Whilst being led to the Start, SHINING DRAGON was kicked on the left thigh area by the lead horse. After arriving at the Start, SHINING DRAGON was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. DIAMOND FLYER began awkwardly, bounded in the air and lost ground. The performance of DIAMOND FLYER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DIAMOND FLYER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Throughout the race, TRIUMPHANT GLORY travelled wide and without cover and approaching the turn at the 800 Metres was ridden along to go forward. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, PALIO KING was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of MULTI-WIN SPIRIT. FREEBIRD made the Home Turn awkwardly and hung out. Approaching the 300 Metres, LIGHTNING MOUNT was shifted to the outside of DAYLIGHT EXPRESS to obtain clear running. M Nunes (MULTI-WIN SPIRIT) said he had been instructed to allow the horse to travel where it was comfortable without being ridden along as in the past the horse had shown it can race keenly. He said it was anticipated MULTI-WIN SPIRIT would travel in front of midfield. He said MULTI-WIN SPIRIT began well, he did not ride along in the early stages in accordance with his instructions and from an awkward barrier endeavoured to find cover. He said MULTI-WIN SPIRIT travelled comfortably for him in a position slightly forward of midfield. He said making the turn at the 800 Metres TRIUMPHANT GLORY improved around his outside and provided him with cover. He said MULTI-WIN SPIRIT continued to travel comfortably, however, when placed under pressure on straightening did not quicken as he felt it would. He said MULTI-WIN SPIRIT continued to make gradual ground in the run to the line. TRIUMPHANT GLORY and DIAMOND FLYER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TRIUMPHANT GLORY and DIAMOND FLYER after the race did not show any significant findings. DAYLIGHT EXPRESS, WAVY PEAK and SHINING DRAGON were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 2 May 2008)
DIAMOND FLYER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. DIAMOND FLYER was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A Lee this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. As previously advised, DIAMOND FLYER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
