Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, the tongue tie fitted to THE GOODIES was replaced. When the gates opened, THE GOODIES stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, THE GOODIES will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. On jumping, WONDERFUL BLESSING was steadied when crowded for room between LOCAL POWER and AMAZING CHOICE, both of which shifted ground. From wide barriers, on jumping, NOBLE HEART and FANTASTIC DANCER were taken back. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, RELY ON ME was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the hindquarters of LOCAL POWER. At the 250 Metres, LONDON EXPRESS was shifted to the inside of FANTASTIC GUY to go forward. At the 200 Metres, FANTASTIC GUY became unbalanced when crowded for room between WINBO and LOCAL POWER. G Mossé (LONDON EXPRESS) explained approaching the 100 Metres when he was shifting in to obtain clear running, he was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of WINBO which shifted ground after bumping with FANTASTIC GUY. He said because of this for a short distance he stopped riding his mount. He said when clear running was again available to him, he resumed riding his mount out to the end of the race. The Stewards advised G Mossé that in similar circumstances he should resume riding his mounts out sooner than he did on this occasion. S K Sit (WINBO) explained he had been instructed to lead on the horse if the tempo of the race was suitable, however, if the tempo of the race was too fast, it would be acceptable to take a sit. He said WINBO began well and in the early stages was crossed by RELY ON ME. He said after the 2000 Metres it appeared to him that RELY ON ME was commencing to steady the tempo, therefore he continued to ride WINBO along and crossed to the lead in front of RELY ON ME. He said after he did this he was able to steady the tempo of the race from the front. He said in his opinion the performance of WINBO was not due to excessive use made of it in the early stages but rather that it was stepping up in distance to 2200 Metres for the first occasion tonight. Mr Y S Tsui, trainer of WINBO, confirmed the riding instructions issued to S K Sit and expressed satisfaction in the manner in which WINBO was ridden. He said whilst WINBO's only success has come when it has been positioned behind the lead, this was in a race over 1600 Metres where the horse was able to relax. He said WINBO has show itself to be a difficult horse with a tendency to pull. He said generally the tempo of 2200 Metre races at Happy Valley would be such that WINBO would prove difficult to settle and therefore it was his preference to take the horse to the lead if possible. S K Sit and Mr Tsui were told their explanations would be reported. W C Marwing (AMAZING CHOICE) explained as the horse was stepping up in distance tonight, he was instructed to ride it in 4th or 5th position if possible. He said in accordance with those instructions he went forward in the early stages and travelled in a three wide position without cover until near the winning post on the first occasion. He said at that time he shifted across to race one horse off the rail, however, still was without cover. He said entering the Back Straight when LOCAL POWER shifted out on his inside, he was again carried to a three wide position without cover for a short distance and near the 900 Metres was able to shift to a position behind LOCAL POWER. He said as a result of the manner in which the race was run AMAZING CHOICE failed to finish the race off. AMAZING CHOICE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING CHOICE after the race did not show any significant findings. THE GOODIES was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, THE GOODIES was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, THE GOODIES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WONDERFUL BLESSING and FLORAL NIRVANA were sent for sampling.
