Racing Incident Report
PAR EXCELLENCE was withdrawn on 23.1.09 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CARRY GOOD NEWS (J Winks). Before being allowed to race again, PAR EXCELLENCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TOUCH LUCKY began awkwardly, got its head up, bounded in the air and lost ground. When the gates opened, SOHNA put its head down, knuckled, then got its head up when being steadied to be taken back from the outside barrier. From a wide barrier on jumping, MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP got its head up and was then taken across behind runners. At the 1200 Metres, PRECISION MAGIC, which was proving difficult to settle, became unbalanced after making contact with OCEAN PRINCE. When the tempo of the race steadied after the 1000 Metres as a result of LUCKY TYCOON (C K Tong) being steadied to allow CHIEF WITNESS to cross, a number of runners commenced to over-race and were inconvenienced. The worst sufferers were TELECOM GOGO, TOUCH LUCKY, HAPPY MASTER, MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP, LEADER, SOHNA and ANIMATION. C K Tong was told in the circumstances of this race having in mind the lead time he had erred by steadying in the manner in which he did and in similar circumstances he would be expected to show more initiative. Also when the tempo of the race steadied after the 1000 Metres, BAJAN BELL commenced to over-race and when being steadied away from the heels of HAPPY MASTER shifted out to race without cover. At the 700 Metres, HAPPY MASTER was checked away from the heels of CONQUEROR. Z Purton (PRECISION MAGIC) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of TELECOM GOGO, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. Z Purton was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 12 February 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday 4 February 2009. Throughout the race, CONQUEROR travelled wide and without cover and CHIEF WITNESS hung out. ANIMATION and CONQUEROR were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ANIMATION after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, CONQUEROR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CONQUEROR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CHIEF WITNESS, LEADER and SOHNA were sent for sampling.
