Racing Incident Report

As the gates opened, NILOMETER got its head up and as a consequence was slow to begin. SUPERNOVA was slow to begin. On jumping, LHOJONG was taken back. Near the 1500 Metres, LHOJONG was steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE HAVEN (D Beadman) which while being shifted in was being restrained and as a consequence was not properly clear of LHOJONG. D Beadman was told to exercise care. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, KING ACRYLIC was bumped by STRAWBERRY. An inquiry into the reason for Apprentice M Chadwick being dislodged from NILOMETER near the 400 Metres was adjourned to a date to be fixed as Apprentice Chadwick was unavailable due to being transported to hospital. When Apprentice Chadwick was dislodged from NILOMETER, SUPERNOVA was checked in consequence. On straightening, NORDIC STAR was steadied away from the heels of KING FAY FAY. At the 250 Metres, FORTUNE HAVEN was shifted to the outside of VIVA FIGHTER into clear running. In the run to the line, VIVA FIGHTER was brushed and then carried in slightly by FORTUNE HAVEN which shifted ground. K T Yeung (KING ACRYLIC) was reminded of his responsibility to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit. FORTUNE HAVEN and VIVA FIGHTER were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that FORTUNE HAVEN had lost its left hind plate.
Adjourned Inquiry – 21 May 2009 Happy Valley Racemeeting – Race 7 (629)

The Stewards today inquired into the reason for Apprentice M Chadwick being dislodged from NILOMETER near the 400 Metres. Evidence was taken from Apprentice Chadwick, D Beadman (FORTUNE HAVEN), Apprentice K C Leung (LHOJONG) and Mr A S Cruz, allocated trainer of Apprentice Chadwick. It was established that near the 400 Metres NILOMETER was shifted out from behind LHOJONG when that horse was being steadied away from the heels of NORTH HILL. When NILOMETER shifted out, it struck the heels of FORTUNE HAVEN and blundered, causing Apprentice Chadwick to be dislodged. On the evidence before them, the Stewards determined the fall to be accidental.
