Racing Incident Report

Just as the gates opened, FEEL-SO-GOOD became very fractious and then stood flat-footed for some time, resulting in FEEL-SO-GOOD losing a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, FEEL-SO-GOOD will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. LUCKY DRAGON began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped WITHALLMYHEART. MAGIC PRACTITIONER also began awkwardly and shifted in, resulting in FAST GO being crowded for room between that horse and OPTIC KING which shifted out slightly. Shortly after the start, MAXIMUM CHARM bumped the hindquarters of KING’S CHOICE. Apprentice K C Leung (MOUNT SURPLUS) was severely reprimanded for steadying his mount upon reaching the lead at the 1000 Metres, resulting in KING’S CHOICE, which was following, having to be checked. In assessing this matter, the Stewards were mindful that MOUNT SURPLUS proved difficult to settle at this time and continued to race ungenerously for some distance after this incident. When the tempo slackened passing the 1000 Metres, a number of runners were inconvenienced, most notably LUCKY DRAGON, FAST GO, DAILY DOUBLE and MAGIC PRACTITIONER. For some distance after this, MAGIC PRACTITIONER proved very difficult to settle and for some distance was checked away from the heels of DAILY DOUBLE. Rounding the turn at the 600 Metres, LUCKY DRAGON got its head up when momentarily crowded for room inside FAST GO which shifted in slightly. Near the 250 Metres, WITHALLMYHEART jumped a mark on the track. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KING’S CHOICE, O Doleuze stated that he had been instructed to lead on the horse, however, KING’S CHOICE did not muster sufficient speed in the early stages despite him riding it along to be able to lead. He said that after being checked at the 1000 Metres, KING’S CHOICE did not travel as he thought it should and was inclined to hang out. He said when placed under pressure in the Straight, KING’S CHOICE was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding. A veterinary inspection of KING’S CHOICE and MOUNT SURPLUS after the race did not show any significant findings. BIG KAHUNA and FAST GO were sent for sampling.
