Racing Incident Report

WISER was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SMART FORTUNE was steadied away from the heels of GOLD WINNER which was taken out by PAR EXCELLENCE. From the outside barrier, FORTUNE TOGETHER was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After the 900 Metres, LONGWAH KID became unbalanced and lost ground when reluctant to maintain its position to the inside of SMART FORTUNE. Near the 450 Metres, CHINA GOOD and ROCKET PROUD bumped as CHINA GOOD shifted to the outside of SMART FORTUNE. Near the 200 Metres, LONGWAH KID momentarily raced in restricted room between PAR EXCELLENCE and DIAMOND RAINBOW. Near the 150 Metres, CHINA GOOD was steadied when crowded for room between ROCKET PROUD and FORTUNE TOGETHER which shifted out into clear running. W M Lai (BRILLIANT ONE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 150 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of WISER, causing that horse to be checked and lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. W M Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 21 November 2011 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). This suspension shall commence on Monday, 14 November 2011 on which day W M Lai was due to resume race riding from a suspension incurred at the Sha Tin racemeeting last Wednesday, 19 October 2011. In addition, W M Lai was fined $15,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. When questioned, Apprentice K C Ng (SURFER BOY) stated that passing the 900 Metres he attempted to shift in to a one-off position behind SMART FORTUNE. He said however at this time SURFER BOY commenced to over-race and he was not able to shift the horse in behind SMART FORTUNE and consequently travelled three wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SMART FORTUNE was found to have dislodged an incisor tooth. A veterinary inspection of GOLD WINNER after the race did not show any significant findings. LONGWAH KID, FORTUNE TOGETHER and DIAMOND RAINBOW were sent for sampling.
