Racing Incident Report

METRO RIDER, which began awkwardly, was crowded for room shortly after the start between PASSIONATE and SHANGHAI PIONEER which shifted in. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, PASSIONATE did not show any early speed and consequently raced back in the field. Near the 900 Metres, MASTER RACER was steadied away from the heels of QUANTUM EXPRESS which was taken in marginally by FIERCE FORCE. Approaching the 800 Metres, HERO’S WIN was hampered when awkwardly placed close to the heels of QUANTUM EXPRESS which shifted out. Making the first turn near the 700 Metres, METRO RIDER hung out towards the heels of SHANGHAI PIONEER. Also making the first turn near the 700 Metres, GOOD JOB got its head on the side and hung out. Throughout the race, PLANET travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the improved performance of DASHING ACE, Trainer B K Ng stated that DASHING ACE has been a frustrating horse and for this reason he has tried it over a number of distances and tracks in an attempt to have it race to the best of its ability. He said DASHING ACE has trialed well on the All Weather surface and in its limited number of starts on this track has raced satisfactorily. He said after the horse competed at last Sunday’s Sha Tin racemeeting, he had decided to back the horse up quickly and return it to the All Weather surface in the hope that this would result in a more improved performance. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HERO’S WIN, Z Purton stated that he was not able to position the horse as far forward as he had hoped as the race was run at a quick tempo. He said he rode HERO’S WIN along in the early stages in an attempt to obtain a more forward position, however, HERO’S WIN, despite being ridden along, was only able to obtain a position behind midfield. He said unlike at its most recent start, HERO’S WIN never travelled well at any stage of today’s race and quickly came under pressure. He added he had ridden HERO’S WIN in its track work leading up to today’s race as he had done prior to its most recent start and the work leading up to this race had maintained at a good level. A veterinary inspection of HERO’S WIN after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of HERO’S WIN, a favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HERO’S WIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of QUANTUM EXPRESS and KING OF FISH II after the race did not show any significant findings. HERO’S WIN, DASHING ACE and GOOD JOB were sent for sampling.
