Racing Incident Report

Shortly after the start, BEST WIN was crowded for room between HI MOLLY and BOLERO, both of which shifted ground.
Also shortly after the start, SEA THE PEARLS was steadied away from the heels of SERENDIPITY which shifted out.
From wide barriers, KICK SERVE and SNITZEL KID were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
For some distance approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, HI MOLLY proved very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions.
Near the 700 Metres, HI MOLLY, which was continuing to prove difficult to settle, was checked away from the heels of CAPE CANAVERAL.
For the majority of the race, SERENDIPITY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
Following the race, T Angland reported that after reaching the lead after the 1000 Metres, ROMANTIC CITY took charge and, despite his efforts, refused to settle. He said as he applied pressure to ROMANTIC CITY in an attempt to have the horse come back underneath him, it got its head on the side and shifted in towards the running rail on a number of occasions. He said whilst ROMANTIC CITY momentarily steadied the tempo after the 800 Metres, the horse then commenced to again prove difficult to settle passing the 600 Metres and once again shifted in towards the running rail.
When questioned, D Whyte stated that, from barrier 10, he had been asked by Mr J Size, the trainer of TOUR DE FORCE, to shift the horse across behind runners in the early stages. He said that after studying the makeup of the field, it was felt that had TOUR DE FORCE been ridden positively in the early stages, it could be left racing wide which would not benefit it in the race. He said it was felt that there was good speed in the race and that TOUR DE FORCE’s interests would be best served by being ridden quietly.
A veterinary inspection of SERENDIPITY after the race did not show any significant findings.
TOUR DE FORCE, BEST WIN and CAPE CANAVERAL were sent for sampling.
