Racing Incident Report

SPEEDYGONZALEZ was slow to begin.
ROYAL KNIGHT began very awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in HOLY MAC being taken out onto RISING POWER which became badly unbalanced and lost ground.
From wide barriers, LITTLE RAINFOREST and TWIN TURBO were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
When being steadied to obtain cover approaching the winning post on the first occasion, RISING POWER got its head up on a number of occasions and proved difficult to settle.
When the tempo of the race slowed after the 1200 Metres, SPEEDYGONZALEZ commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOLDEN ADDICTION which raced close to the heels of JACK’S GEM. RISING POWER, which was following, was checked away from the heels of SPEEDYGONZALEZ in consequence and TWIN TURBO got its head up on a number of occasions when being checked away from the heels of RISING POWER. After this, SPEEDYGONZALEZ continued to prove very difficult to settle for some distance and approaching the 1000 Metres shifted out from GOLDEN ADDICTION and in doing so bumped EL GRANDE.
Passing the 1000 Metres, RISING POWER was checked away from the heels of SPEEDYGONZALEZ.
Near the 500 Metres, SPEEDYGONZALEZ again got its head up when being checked away from the heels of GOLDEN ADDICTION. RISING POWER, which was following, was checked in consequence.
Near the 400 Metres, GOLDEN ADDICTION brushed the running rail when momentarily tightened inside HOLY MAC.
Near the 250 Metres, EL GRANDE became unbalanced after being bumped by SPEEDYGONZALEZ which got its head on the side and lay out under pressure.
Over the concluding stages, GOLDEN ADDICTION raced close to the heels of LITTLE RAINFOREST and consequently was not able to be ridden out to the end of the race.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of LITTLE RAINFOREST, Trainer C S Shum stated that the horse had been very disappointing in each of its runs this season when having to be ridden along to obtain a forward position. He said he had become frustrated with the manner in which LITTLE RAINFOREST had been racing this season and after LITTLE RAINFOREST drew a wide barrier tonight, he felt that there was an opportunity to alter the manner in which the horse had been ridden in the early stages in order to switch it on. He said he anticipated that tonight’s race would be run at a relatively slow tempo, particularly in the middle stages and therefore he instructed M Chadwick, the rider of LITTLE RAINFOREST, to relax the horse in the early stages towards the rear of the field from its wide barrier. He said he further instructed Jockey Chadwick that if the pace of the race was moderate in the middle stages as he anticipated, then he should take advantage of this and make a forward move after entering the Back Straight. He added whilst LITTLE RAINFOREST’s success was not anticipated tonight, he did feel that the horse’s improved performance could be solely attributed to the variance to the horse’s normal racing pattern in the early stages.
A veterinary inspection of UWILLBEGLORIOUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GOLDEN ADDICTION, LITTLE RAINFOREST and FULL OF FUN were sent for sampling.
