Racing Incident Report

MR GINGER was withdrawn on 3.1.14 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetence). Before being allowed to race again, MR GINGER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SUPREME FRESH began awkwardly and shifted in and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of TONYBOY which shifted out after being bumped by BRILLIANT SHINE.
O Doleuze (OUR FOLKS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of BRAVE BROTHER, causing that horse to be checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. O Doleuze was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 16 January 2014 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). This suspension is with immediate effect.
O Doleuze pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 155(5) in that he misconducted himself following the running of this race when proceeding from the Weighing Room to the Jockeys’ Room, he inappropriately made contact with T Angland. For this breach, O Doleuze was fined the sum of $20,000.
T Angland (BRAVE BROTHER) also pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 155(5) in that he misconducted himself following the running of this race when proceeding from the Weighing Room to the Jockeys’ Room, he directed an inappropriate comment to O Doleuze. For this breach, T Angland was fined the sum of $20,000.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, DANCE FOR GOLD was crowded for room between LONGWAH SUPREME and JOLLY GOOD STAR which was taken out by BRILLIANT SHINE. For some distance after this, BRILLIANT SHINE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of POLYMER WIN and making the turn near the 900 Metres got its head up when racing keenly and shifted out, taking JOLLY GOOD STAR and LONGWAH SUPREME wider.
Near the 600 Metres, BRAVE BROTHER got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of OUR FOLKS.
BRILLIANT SHINE was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Approaching the 300 Metres, OUR FOLKS was shifted out across the heels of MULTIEXPRESS to obtain clear running.
Throughout the race, JOLLY GOOD STAR travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, M Chadwick stated that he had been instructed to ride MULTIEXPRESS positively in the early stages and take up a forward position. He said if no other runner was intent on leading, he should dictate the tempo of the race, however, if it was apparent that the rider of another horse had the intention to lead, then he should allow that horse to cross and take a trailing position. He said after beginning well, in accordance with his instructions, he allowed MULTIEXPRESS to obtain a forward position. He said it became apparent to him that shortly after the start that the rider of WINFULL PATROL was seeking to obtain a forward position. He said making the first turn near the 900 Metres when MULTIEXPRESS was not proving difficult to settle and WINFULL PATROL had gained about a length advantage over MULTIEXPRESS, he allowed the horse to continue into the lead. He said at no stage did he have to forcefully restrain MULTIEXPRESS to allow WINFULL PATROL to cross and after being crossed by that horse, MULTIEXPRESS travelled kindly and did not over-race at any stage. He added when TONYBOY commenced to improve its position around MULTIEXPRESS leaving the 600 Metres, he immediately shifted MULTIEXPRESS to the outside of WINFULL PATROL and at the entrance to the Straight was racing in a challenging position outside of WINFULL PATROL. He said he placed MULTIEXPRESS under pressure and the horse then closed off the race fairly. Trainer A S Cruz confirmed that he had instructed Jockey Chadwick not to become involved in a contest for the lead if another horse showed an intention to take up that position. He said he was very satisfied with Jockey Chadwick’s decision to allow WINFULL PATROL to cross as at no time did MULTIEXPRESS have to be unnecessarily restrained or over-race throughout the relevant sections of the race.
A veterinary inspection of LONGWAH SUPREME and BRAVE BROTHER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BRAVE BROTHER, WINFULL PATROL and OUR FOLKS were sent for sampling.
