Racing Incident Report

As the start was effected, NO TIES, which was fractious in the barriers, lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin.
From the outside barrier, POSITIVE ENERGY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. WINNING ADVANTAGE was also taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
LOVELY PANDA shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of SPECTACULAR AWARD which became unbalanced. After this, LOVELY PANDA was ridden along, however, failed to muster speed.
Shortly after the start, CAPTAIN AMERICA was crowded for room between BERNARD’S CHOICE and MAN AND MING which, after being bumped on the hindquarters, then shifted in further. A short distance later, CAPTAIN AMERICA was steadied when crowded for room between BERNARD’S CHOICE which shifted out after being bumped on the hindquarters and MAN AND MING which was taken in by ELEPHANT MAGIC (Apprentice C Y Lui). Apprentice Lui was advised that whilst there was a significant contribution to this incident when MAN AND MING shifted in of its own accord, nonetheless he had allowed his mount to shift in which compounded the tightening to the runners on his inside. Apprentice Lui was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear of other runners when shifting ground.
Approaching the 1200 Metres, CAPTAIN AMERICA lost its right hind plate.
At the 1100 Metres, CAPTAIN AMERICA got its head up on a number of occasions when proving difficult to settle.
At the entrance to the Straight, WINNING ADVANTAGE and POSITIVE ENERGY raced tight and made contact on a number of occasions as WINNING ADVANTAGE shifted out to obtain clear running.
RECORD AGAIN had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
For some distance after the 400 Metres, CASA JUNIOR raced in restricted room between MAN AND MING and MAGICAL BEAM and near the 300 Metres was momentarily steadied away from the heels of MAGICAL BEAM which shifted in.
LOVELY PANDA had difficulty obtaining clear running at the 300 Metres.
Throughout the race, CLASSIC FIGURE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
When questioned, C Williams stated that he was not under any specific instructions on how BERNARD’S CHOICE should be ridden in the race other than to have the horse travelling where it was comfortable. He said BERNARD’S CHOICE began well and after becoming unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by CAPTAIN AMERICA was then inclined to over-race. He said rather than restrain BERNARD’S CHOICE, he allowed his mount to maintain its position. He said BERNARD’S CHOICE travelled very well in the run and he expected it to show a good turn of foot when placed under pressure, however, shortly after straightening BERNARD’S CHOICE came under pressure and despite being ridden out was disappointing in its failure to close off the race.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that MAN AND MING had sustained a superficial wound to the right hind coronet.
A veterinary inspection of CAPTAIN AMERICA and CLASSIC FIGURE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MAN AND MING, MAGICAL BEAM and CASA JUNIOR were sent for sampling.
<17/2/2014 Additional Veterinary Report>CLASSIC FIGURE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. CLASSIC FIGURE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A Lee this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, CLASSIC FIGURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
The Veterinary Officer reported that SPECTACULAR AWARD was found to be lame in its left front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, SPECTACULAR AWARD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
