Racing Incident Report

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, HORSE OF FORTUNE failed to muster speed and shortly after the start was shifted across behind runners.
When questioned, K Teetan stated that he had been asked to ride PABLOSKY more quietly given that the horse was racing over 1400 Metres. He said it was felt that the horse’s best opportunity to close off the race would be for it to be ridden off the speed given that there were a number of horses engaged in the race which had previously taken up a forward position in their races. He said in accordance with his instructions, he steadied PABLOSKY in the early stages and the horse initially got its head up, however, shortly after the start commenced to travel kindly and travelled well during the early and middle stages. He said at the entrance to the Straight PABLOSKY was steadied when unable to improve between MIDNIGHT RATTLER and LUCKY YEAR. He added he then had to wait for a short distance before being able to shift PABLOSKY to the outside of runners which he was able to do passing the 300 Metres. He said after obtaining clear running PABLOSKY then closed off the race well. Mr J Moore, the trainer of PABLOSKY, stated that he anticipated this race would be run at a good tempo as there were a number of horses that had previously raced in a forward position and in particular he anticipated that LUCKY YEAR and HORSE OF FORTUNE, which were both ridden by apprentice jockeys, may race in the lead. He said because LUCKY YEAR was drawn inside PABLOSKY, he had hoped that PABLOSKY would be able to take up a position behind that horse which if LUCKY YEAR led, this would result in PABLOSKY racing behind the lead and which would assist its chance of getting the 1400 Metres of today’s event. He said the circumstances of the race in the early stages after LUCKY YEAR was crossed by WINNER’S WAY passing the 1200 Metres resulted in PABLOSKY racing further back in the field than had been intended.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on HORSE OF FORTUNE at the request of Trainer A T Millard. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HORSE OF FORTUNE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of MIDNIGHT RATTLER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WINNER’S WAY and HORSE OF FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
