Racing Incident Report

THE JUDGE was withdrawn on 28.1.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory infection) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SMART LEADER. Before being allowed to race again, THE JUDGE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
On arrival at the Start, ENCOURAGING had its right front plate refitted. ENCOURAGING was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
ENCOURAGING shifted out at the start and bumped RIGHT HONOURABLE. ENCOURAGING then failed to muster speed despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages.
WITNESS HUNTER began awkwardly and bumped the outside of its barrier stall and then shifted out and bumped WONDERFUL JOURNEY which, from a wide barrier, was then shifted across behind runners.
Also from the outside barrier, PENANG HALL was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Approaching the 1200 Metres, RIGHT HONOURABLE and STAR MAJESTIC raced tight.
MAGNETISM lost its left hind plate passing the 1100 Metres.
Throughout the middle stages, IRISH VEGA was ridden along when reluctant to maintain its positon between LUCKY GIRL and WITNESS HUNTER.
For some distance approaching the 700 Metres, RIGHT HONOURABLE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of IRISH VEGA which continued to be reluctant to maintain its position. This resulted in RIGHT HONOURABLE shifting out away from the heels of IRISH VEGA approaching the 600 Metres, causing MAGNETISM to be bumped and taken wider. RIGHT HONOURABLE and MAGNETISM then raced tight passing the 600 Metres.
WITNESS HUNTER travelled wide and without cover until passing the 700 Metres at which time STAR MAJESTIC was left racing wide and without cover.
Rounding the Home Turn, WONDERFUL JOURNEY was awkwardly placed behind RIGHT HONOURABLE and STAR MAJESTIC.
Near the 250 Metres, ENCOURAGING raced tight inside SMART LEADER when improving inside that horse.
Passing the 200 Metres, MAGNETISM was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of RIGHT HONOURABLE.
Passing the 100 Metres, RIGHT HONOURABLE momentarily raced tight inside MAGNETISM which shifted in under pressure.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SMART LEADER, Z Purton stated that, in his opinion, the horse lacked maturity when attempting the 1650 Metres for the first time tonight. He said when racing in the lead, SMART LEADER would not relax and throughout the race made an abnormal breathing noise. A veterinary inspection of SMART LEADER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. The performance of SMART LEADER, favourite for tonight’s race and which finished at the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SMART LEADER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, K C Leung stated that STAR MAJESTIC did not travel well at any stage of the race. A veterinary inspection of STAR MAJESTIC immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SMART LEADER, ENCOURAGING and HAR HAR HEART were sent for sampling.
