Racing Incident Report

After being loaded into the barriers, FOR FUN’S SAKE became fractious and reared and momentarily got its right front leg over into the adjoining stall. FOR FUN’S SAKE was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, FOR FUN’S SAKE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
GOKO shifted out at the start and bumped SHANGHAI LAD, causing both horses to become badly unbalanced.
THIS IS CHARISMA began awkwardly and then was steadied away from the heels of MONKEY JEWELLERY which shifted out.
NOBLE DESIRE was slow to begin and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners.
FOR FUN’S SAKE was also slow to begin and then shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE HERO which shifted out.
SUPER LUCKY shifted in abruptly at the start and made heavy contact with VICTORY FOR ALL, causing both horses to become badly unbalanced.
Near the 1150 Metres, MULTIMAX shifted out and inconvenienced LORIZ and ALL BEST FRIENDS.
When being shifted across behind ALL BEST FRIENDS near the 1100 Metres, FORTUNE HERO raced close to the heels of ALL BEST FRIENDS which became unbalanced. A veterinary inspection of ALL BEST FRIENDS immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a small wound to the left hind heel whilst FORTUNE HERO had sustained a small overreach wound to the right front heel.
When being steadied to obtain cover from the outside barrier near the 1100 Metres, SUPER LUCKY got its head up and travelled keenly.
From a wide barrier, VICTORY FOR ALL was steadied in the early stages in an attempt to obtain cover, however, after the 1000 Metres was left racing wide and without cover.
After the 700 Metres and again passing the 600 Metres, SUPER LUCKY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FORTUNE HERO.
MONKEY JEWELLERY travelled wide and without cover until near the 600 Metres.
Passing the 400 Metres, NOBLE DESIRE momentarily became unbalanced.
Close to the finishing line, GOKO raced tight inside the heels of NOBLE DESIRE which shifted to the inside of MULTIMAX.
A veterinary inspection of GOKO immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a small cut below the right stifle.
A veterinary inspection of FOR FUN’S SAKE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LORIZ and ALL BEST FRIENDS were sent for sampling.
<9/5/2020 6 May 2020 Happy Valley Racemeeting – Race 1 (632)>After reviewing the videos, the Stewards felt that it was appropriate to question K Teetan regarding his riding of ALL BEST FRIENDS in the early stages. K Teetan stated that he was instructed to take up a forward positon as it was anticipated that GOKO, MULTIMAX and LORIZ, which were drawn inside ALL BEST FRIENDS, would take up forward positions. He said in the early stages he steadied ALL BEST FRIENDS and shifted that horse behind LORIZ which at this stage was being steadied to race outside MULTIMAX. He said making the turn near the 1050 Metres he was racing in a one-off position outside the heels of GOKO and inside LORIZ and following MULTIMAX. He said MULTIMAX was being hard ridden to obtain the lead and he anticipated that MULTIMAX would clear GOKO to race on the rail in advance of that horse which would position LORIZ directly to the outside of MULTIMAX which would provide ALL BEST FRIENDS with the opportunity to follow LORIZ, a horse that he anticipated to be a strong chance in the race. He added after the 1000 Metres MULTIMAX was still being ridden to cross GOKO and therefore he still anticipated that MULTIMAX would lead on the rail. He said however that after the 950 Metres it became apparent to him that MULTIMAX would not be able to clear GOKO and whilst LORIZ remained racing in a three wide position at this time, that horse held a margin over ALL BEST FRIENDS and he felt that he would have had to ride his mount along to consolidate his position inside LORIZ which was commencing to shift in behind MULTIMAX. He said in hindsight it may have been better to have done this, however, given the circumstances of the race at that time, he felt that remaining racing behind LORIZ, slightly further back than otherwise may have been, was a better option than riding his mount along at this stage in an endeavour to consolidate his position. K Teetan was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, his riding of ALL BEST FRIENDS in the early part of the race was reasonable, given that it appeared as though MULTIMAX was going to lead and that LORIZ was going to position to its outside. However, he was told to ensure that he is aware of the changing circumstances of a race so that he is able to either obtain or maintain a favourable position wherever the opportunity exists.
