Racing Incident Report
TOYCOON was slow to begin.
From wide barriers, AUTHENTIC CHAMP, LEADING FORTUNE, LEGION OF MERIT and AI ONE were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
J Moreira (PERFECT TO GREAT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of HANG’S DECISION, resulting in that horse being taken in and crowded onto TOYCOON which was checked. J Moreira was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 14 February 2021 and to expire on Thursday, 18 February 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Moreira’s good race riding record.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, LOOKING GREAT momentarily raced tight inside CALIFORNIA TEN.
Approaching the first turn near the 900 Metres, TELECOM FIGHTERS got its head on the side, shifted out and became awkward on the heels of KING OPIE.
After the 900 Metres, CALIFORNIA TEN was left racing wide and without cover.
Approaching the 300 Metres, LOOKING GREAT made contact with CALIFORNIA TEN when attempting to improve between that horse and TELECOM FIGHTERS.
At the 250 Metres, CASIMIRO shifted in and brushed CALIFORNIA TEN.
Approaching the 150 Metres, PERFECT TO GREAT shifted out under pressure, requiring its rider to stop riding and straighten.
After the race, C Soumillon (PIANO SOLO) stated that after being slow to begin, he was able to take up a forward position on PIANO SOLO behind the leaders. He said the horse appeared to travel satisfactorily, however, did not respond to his riding in the Straight and weakened noticeably. A veterinary inspection of PIANO SOLO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

LOOKING GREAT, CASIMIRO and TELECOM FIGHTERS were sent for sampling.
