Racing Incident Report

CHANCHENG PRINCE was crowded for room on jumping between CRAIG’S STAR and BEAUTY DAY which shifted in.
EVERYONE’S DELIGHT shifted out at the start, resulting in SUPER WINNER being taken out onto HARMONY WIN WIN which was bumped and in turn shifted out and bumped SPEND which became unbalanced.
From wide barriers, JUNEAU PARK and KING’S CAPITAL were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Passing the 1100 Metres, KING’S CAPITAL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of JUNEAU PARK which was being ridden along. KING’S CAPITAL was then shifted to the inside of JUNEAU PARK approaching the 1000 Metres.
Near the 1000 Metres, EVERYONE’S DELIGHT was checked when crowded for room inside CHANCHENG PRINCE which was taken in by BEAUTY DAY which, after being initially directed in momentarily by HARMONY WIN WIN, then shifted in away from that horse as HARMONY WIN WIN (H Bentley) was corrected. H Bentley was told that, in the opinion of the Stewards, there were some circumstances to this incident, in particular HARMONY WIN WIN was travelling keenly at this stage and BEAUTY DAY had contributed to the incident by shifting in away from HARMONY WIN WIN, nonetheless he was reprimanded and told to ensure that he is sufficiently clear of other runners when shifting ground and that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside. When EVERYONE’S DELIGHT was checked, it got its head on the side and shifted out passing the 900 Metres and bumped SPEND. EVERYONE’S DELIGHT then lost ground when steadied away from the heels of SPEND near the 800 Metres. KING’S CAPITAL, which was following EVERYONE’S DELIGHT, was shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
Approaching the 500 Metres, CHANCHENG PRINCE shifted out and bumped BEAUTY DAY.
Near the 350 Metres, BEAUTY DAY was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of KING’S CAPITAL (M L Yeung) which shifted in before being corrected. M L Yeung was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Over the last 100 Metres, STAR PERFORMANCE, which was endeavouring to improve to the outside of CRAIG’S STAR, was awkwardly placed outside the heels of that horse as CRAIG’S STAR (M F Poon) shifted out under pressure. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that STAR PERFORMANCE had not properly established running to the outside of CRAIG’S STAR, nonetheless M F Poon was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out under pressure and failing to correct his mount.
After the race, A Hamelin (JUNEAU PARK) stated that he had to ride his mount along passing the 1200 Metres as it was reluctant to maintain its position. He said, despite being vigorously ridden out for some distance after this, JUNEAU PARK commenced to give ground and shifted ground on a number of occasions, particularly near the 1000 Metres. He said he continued to ride JUNEAU PARK along, however, the horse remained unbalanced in its action and continued to give ground and for this reason he eased it down after the 700 Metres. A veterinary inspection of JUNEAU PARK immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, JUNEAU PARK will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of SPEND immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SPEND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY DAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, it was reported that EVERYONE’S DELIGHT was found to have sustained a laceration to the left front cannon.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on KYRUS UNICORN at the request of Trainer C W Chang. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, KYRUS UNICORN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SUPER WINNER and CRAIG’S STAR were sent for sampling.
