Race:1 (760) RACING GOES ON 1650M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1650 m

SHALLUCK was withdrawn on 30.6.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MAGIC AGILITY (T H So). Before being allowed to race again, SHALLUCK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
MAGIC AGILITY was slow to begin.
UNIQUE JOYOUS began awkwardly.
FIVE STARS AGENT and TOP ACE were crowded for room on jumping between RISING POWER and SOCCER BRAVE, both of which shifted ground.
From the outside barriers, NOBLE DE BOY and LITTLE FANTASY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
JIMSON THE FAMOUS and THE LEGEND were also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
When being steadied to obtain cover passing the winning post on the first occasion, RISING POWER got its head up and travelled keenly.
For some distance approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, DYNAMIC LIONS travelled keenly and got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover behind WONDERFUL TIGER.
Approaching and passing the 800 Metres, JIMSON THE FAMOUS was awkwardly placed behind TOP ACE.
Passing the 800 Metres, RISING POWER and SOCCER BRAVE raced tight.
Passing the 700 Metres, SOCCER BRAVE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of WONDERFUL TIGER.
Throughout the race, WONDERFUL TIGER travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. After the race, N Callan stated that after making the turn at the 700 Metres WONDERFUL TIGER hung in and proved difficult to ride. A veterinary inspection of WONDERFUL TIGER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SOCCER BRAVE, Apprentice C Wong stated that after obtaining a good position trailing the leaders, SOCCER BRAVE felt as though it was going to improve into the race after the 600 Metres. He said however a short distance later SOCCER BRAVE came under pressure when not able to immediately improve to the outside of WONDERFUL TIGER and then appeared to him to lose interest in the race as, despite being hard ridden for the remainder of the race, SOCCER BRAVE did not respond to his riding and weakened noticeably to finish at the rear of the field. A veterinary inspection of SOCCER BRAVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SOCCER BRAVE, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SOCCER BRAVE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that FIVE STARS AGENT was found to be bleeding heavily as a result of a wound to the outside of the right hind coronary band. A subsequent inspection of FIVE STARS AGENT by the Veterinary Surgeon found that horse to have sustained significant hoof damage. Before being allowed to race again, FIVE STARS AGENT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
TOP ACE, LUCKY WIN WIN and MY HONEY were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (761) WORLD-CLASS LEADERSHIP 1000M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1000 m

Whilst in the saddling stalls, FAME AND FORTUNE had its right hind plate refitted. FAME AND FORTUNE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
HIDDEN SPIRIT began awkwardly and then on jumping was checked when crowded for room between FAME AND FORTUNE which shifted in and MASSIVE MOVE which shifted out abruptly. In this incident, MASSIVE MOVE and FAME AND FORTUNE bumped heavily.
Approaching and passing the 100 Metres, TRIUMPHANT JEWEL was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GENTLE BREEZE which shifted out under pressure.
When questioned, T Berry stated that he had ridden GENTLE BREEZE in a piece of track work in the lead up to today’s race and in that work GENTLE BREEZE sat behind a workmate before finishing off the work strongly when shifted to the outside of that horse. He said from the horse’s inside barrier he was asked to obtain a trailing position behind GOKO if possible. He said as he was shifting GENTLE BREEZE across to race behind GOKO, GENTLE BREEZE came off the bridle and relaxed too much which resulted in him having to commence riding the horse along near the 900 Metres in order to maintain a more prominent position behind GOKO. He said he was required to continually niggle at GENTLE BREEZE throughout the early and middle stages as, due to its inexperience, the horse was reluctant to make up the ground behind GOKO. He added GENTLE BREEZE then finished off the race quite well over the latter stages of the race.
GOKO and BUMBLE BABY were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (762) UNCOMPROMISING INTEGRITY 2000M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 2000 m

GOOD OMEN was crowded for room on jumping between GOOD DAYS and CLOUD NINE which shifted out. In this incident, GOOD DAYS became unbalanced after being bumped by GOOD OMEN.

Passing the 200 Metres, SANGRIA was awkwardly placed inside the heels of GENERAL SHERMAN which shifted in under pressure.
The performance of AMAZING AGILITY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, AMAZING AGILITY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING AGILITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, Apprentice C Wong (CLOUD NINE) stated that after being able to dictate the terms of the race in the early stages at an average tempo, he looked to his outside near the 1100 Metres and gained the impression that NEW ELEGANCE may be about to improve its position to place some pressure on CLOUD NINE in the lead, therefore after the 1100 Metres he quickened the tempo to ensure that CLOUD NINE retained the outright lead. He said however that it was only after the race that he realized that this particular section of the race had been run as quickly as it was and it was not his intention to increase the tempo quite as much as he had at this time. In this respect, Apprentice Wong was advised to ensure that he rates his mounts such that they can finish off their races as best as they are able. Apprentice Wong stated that CLOUD NINE came under pressure passing the 600 Metres and then rounding the Home Turn commenced to give ground as soon as NEW ELEGANCE improved its position forward of CLOUD NINE. He added in the Straight CLOUD NINE was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened. A veterinary inspection of CLOUD NINE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SANGRIA immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SANGRIA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
CLOUD NINE, FIAMA and NEW ELEGANCE were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (763) SERVING THE COMMUNITY 1200M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

Just prior to the start being effected, SUPREME WITNESS became fractious and then as the gates opened lifted its front feet off the ground, began awkwardly and lost ground.
HONEST WAY shifted out at the start and bumped FLYING LOVER.
From a wide barrier, SHINING ON was restrained in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Also from the outside barrier, ABSOLUCOOL was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
A short distance after the start, STAR OF PATCH was steadied to obtain a position with cover closer to the rail.
Approaching the 900 Metres, SUPREME WITNESS was crowded for room inside GRACIOUS RYDER which commenced to prove very difficult to settle and shifted in when being checked away from the heels of JOY AND POWER.
Throughout the race, FLYING LOVER travelled wide and without cover.
At the entrance to the Straight, ABSOLUCOOL raced close to the heels of STAR OF PATCH and when being shifted to the outside of that horse bumped with HONG KONG’S FOLKS, causing ABSOLUCOOL to become badly unbalanced and HONG KONG’S FOLKS to become unbalanced.
Prior to the declaration of weighed-in, the Stewards viewed the video to establish whether there were grounds for a protest/objection in respect of the 3rd placegetter SUNSHINE HOLIDAY against the 2nd placegetter VICTORY POWER. It was evident that SUNSHINE HOLIDAY hung in in the early part of the Straight and near the 250 Metres had to be corrected by its rider after shifting in towards the heels of FLYING LOVER. After being straightened, SUNSHINE HOLIDAY again shifted in and bumped VICTORY POWER near the 150 Metres, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced. SUNSHINE HOLIDAY and VICTORY POWER continued to race tight for the remainder of the race and close to the finishing line SUNSHINE HOLIDAY was taken out marginally by VICTORY POWER. As the Stewards were satisfied that SUNSHINE HOLIDAY had initiated the contact between the two horses by laying in, the matter was not proceeded with.
After the race, K Teetan stated that although HONG KONG’S FOLKS was obliged to race three wide for the majority of the race, the horse had partial cover. He said HONG KONG’S FOLKS commenced to give ground abruptly from the 600 Metres and although bumped at the entrance to the Straight was well beaten at this time. A veterinary inspection of HONG KONG’S FOLKS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of HONG KONG’S FOLKS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HONG KONG’S FOLKS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

As previously advised, HONG KONG’S FOLKS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.

Race:5 (764) CONTINUOUS DEVELOPMENT 1650M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

ENREACHING began awkwardly and bumped the inside of its gate on jumping, resulting in the horse losing ground.
From wide barriers, NAMJONG INVINCIBLE, MASTER BERNINI and MANAGEMENT STAR were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
HOUSE OF LUCK began awkwardly and despite being ridden along for a considerable distance in the early part of the race failed to muster speed, then raced very wide making the first turn and consequently settled well back in the field. HOUSE OF LUCK subsequently failed to finish off its race and finished tailed off. A veterinary inspection of HOUSE OF LUCK immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. The performance of HOUSE OF LUCK, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HOUSE OF LUCK will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
The performances of CURLING LUXURY, MANAGEMENT STAR and TRAVEL AMBASSADOR, all of which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CURLING LUXURY, MANAGEMENT STAR and TRAVEL AMBASSADOR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, N Callan stated that whilst CHATER THUNDER travelled well in the early and middle stages, his mount did not seem to stretch out in the prevailing conditions when placed under pressure in the Straight and finished off the race only fairly. A veterinary inspection of CHATER THUNDER immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea and was also found to have sustained minor abrasions to the inside of the right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, CHATER THUNDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of GOUTEN OF GARO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CHATER THUNDER, ELUSIVE STATE and LUCKY SHINY DAY were sent for sampling.
<3/7/2018 Additional Veterinary Report>HOUSE OF LUCK, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time the horse was lame in its right front leg. HOUSE OF LUCK was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have sustained a right front tendon injury. Throughout the race, THE CREATETH travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, M Chadwick (VIVA COUNCIL) stated that whilst the horse had shown a propensity to hang out in its races, he believed that it lay out worse today than it had previously when ridden by him and then in the Straight did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of VIVA COUNCIL immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, VIVA COUNCIL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, H N Wong stated that with the head gear being removed from DOUBLE DOWN, it was hoped that, from the outside barrier, the horse may be able to obtain a position in about midfield with some cover. He said however that DOUBLE DOWN began far better than he expected and he felt that rather than restrain his mount, he should allow it to shift across to race outside the lead. He said he did not have to ride his mount vigorously to do so, rather DOUBLE DOWN was able to obtain the position outside the lead quite easily which resulted in it settling further forward in the field than had been anticipated. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on DOUBLE DOWN at the request of Trainer W Y So. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DOUBLE DOWN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of FLASH FAMOUS, Trainer F C Lor stated that whilst the horse was down in grade in today’s race, in his opinion, its improved performance could primarily be attributed to the addition of blinkers. He said following the horse’s disappointing performance last start, he had added blinkers to the horse for its track work and noticed an immediate improvement in the manner in which it worked. He said in preparation for today’s race, he trialed FLASH FAMOUS in blinkers and based on its showing in this trial he anticipated the horse would perform better in today’s race and advised the owners accordingly.
A veterinary inspection of ROYAL MOJITO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
PICKEN, FLASH FAMOUS and FRESH POWER were sent for sampling.
