Patinack Farm Classic and Emirates Stakes (Patrick Payne)

S1-1 Patinack Farm Classic

SEA SIREN looked like Australia’s next sprint superstar when winning the Group 1 Manikato Stakes last start, her sixth win (three times in Group 1 races) from nine outings, and there’s no reason why the Flemington straight six won’t suit her. The word is that she will travel for the LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint next month if she wins this.

MENTAL will be out to the turn the tables on my top pick and he ran SEA SIREN close two weeks ago having been a bit held up on the turn for home. There is not much between them.

Queensland sprinter BUFFERING started favourite for the Manikato Stakes but does not seem ideally suited to Moonee Valley. Take out that run and his form is very solid. He was runner-up in this race a year back and was touched off in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap on his most recent visit here last March. The outside barrier is also a plus down this chute.

TEMPLE OF BOOM is very consistent and has strong credentials. He loves the Flemington straight – three wins in sprints here - and the high barrier is another positive.

The other to consider is SNITZERLAND who was unbeaten this spring until the Coolmore Stud Stakes here a week ago and is lightly weighted and race fit.

SELECTIONS: 10. SEA SIREN, 5. MENTAL, 1. BUFFERING, 2. TEMPLE OF BOOM & 15. SNITZERLAND

S1-2 Emirates Stakes

HE’S REMARKABLE is a much-travelled New Zealand galloper with excellent 1600-metre form. It helps that he has won on his only start at this course & distance and this has been his target for quite some time.

HAPPY TRAILS is suited here back to handicap conditions having found things a bit taxing at weight-for-age terms in his last two runs. He should race on the pace and is tough enough to repel most, if not all, of his rivals in the stretch.

SOLZHENITSYN won a Group 1 at this distance last month so he is in great shape and he has a nice low gate to assist.

Winner of the Group 1 Epsom Handicap in Sydney last month, FAT AL is another that will roll forward and prove hard to pass.

We tipped FAWKNER to win here last week and he duly obliged. This is his biggest test yet but he loves this track having his won all of his last four starts here. He’s improving and should get a nice passage from his barrier towards the inside.

SELECTIONS: 7. HE’S REMARKABLE, 2. HAPPY TRAILS, 4. SOLZHENITSYN, 1. FAT AL & 10. FAWKNER
