He said as his mount was dropping back in distance he rode it along in the early stages to ensure he was able to comply with his instructions. He said when caught wide in the early stages and when his mount was not showing sufficient pace to cross, he then elected to endeavour to obtain cover. He added as his mount was racing keenly would not respond to his efforts to restrain and obtain cover which resulted in racing very wide and without cover for the majority of the event - Race 436.
