Racing Incident Report

CRACKERJACK began awkwardly.
SAJJHAA was slow to begin.
AKEED MOFEED was crowded for room at the start between MILITARY ATTACK and IRIAN, both of which shifted ground. A short distance later, IRIAN was steadied away from the heels of AKEED MOFEED which was taken out by MILITARY ATTACK.
Passing the 1500 Metres, AKEED MOFEED got its head up for a short distance when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ASHKIYR.
IGUGU travelled wide and without cover until after the 1200 Metres at which time it was allowed to stride into the lead.
After the 1200 Metres, AMBITIOUS DRAGON and IRIAN raced tight.
At the 400 Metres, AMBITIOUS DRAGON was checked away from the heels of MILITARY ATTACK and shifted in to obtain clear running.
EISHIN FLASH was unable to obtain clear running until near the 300 Metres.
Near the 300 Metres, WRATH OF FIRE was shifted out away from the heels of ASHKIYR which was giving ground.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident occurred near the 250 Metres which cast doubt on whether CALIFORNIA MEMORY should be declared the 2nd placegetter of the race. After the race and prior to weighed-in being declared, Jockey Z Purton, the rider of AMBITIOUS DRAGON, 6th placed, also viewed the video with a view to establishing whether grounds for a protest/objection existed against CALIFORNIA MEMORY. Jockey Purton elected not to lodge a protest/objection on behalf of the connections of AMBITIOUS DRAGON. After viewing the video, the Stewards did not lodge a protest/objection on behalf of the connections of AMBITIOUS DRAGON after finding that whilst CALIFORNIA MEMORY did shift out at this time and interfered with AMBITIOUS DRAGON, bearing in mind the margin between the horses at the end of the race and the manner in which both horses closed off the race, they formed the view that there were not sufficient grounds to proceed with the matter. At a subsequent inquiry, M Chadwick (CALIFORNIA MEMORY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 250 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of AMBITIOUS DRAGON, causing that horse to be checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 23 May 2013 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). This suspension shall commence on Sunday, 12 May 2013 on which day he was due to resume race riding from a suspension incurred at the Happy Valley racemeeting last Wednesday night. In addition, M Chadwick was fined $80,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating two further racedays.
Near the 100 Metres, SAJJHAA got its head on the side and shifted in under pressure.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that TREASURE BEACH had lost its right front plate.
AKEED MOFEED, MILITARY ATTACK and CALIFORNIA MEMORY were sent for sampling.
<29/4/2013 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Officer reported that IRIAN was found to be lame in its left front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, IRIAN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
