Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, AMERICAN WIN got down behind, partially reared and consequently lost considerable amount of ground. ARROWMINT was slowly away. Running to the first turn, HANDSOME MAN was steadied to avoid TRUST ME which was taken in slightly by STERLING CHANCE which itself shifted away from AMITY (S King) which was shifting across the lead when barely clear. S King was told he must exercise more care. S King went on to say AMITY is a horse with natural speed, but tends to over-race, travel with its ears pricked and in his opinion is still very green in its races. Throughout the event, SUPER ELITE, which was obliged to travel wide, raced greenly. When asked about the disappointing performance of SUPER CONNECTIONS, D Harrison said he worked the horse in a gallop on the track on Monday morning. This work was satisfactory and even though the horse is getting higher in the ratings, it was anticipated that it would run competitively tonight. He said however once AMITY crossed from the outside and led SUPER CONNECTIONS, the horse tended to drop the bit, did not travel comfortably and was well beaten a long way out. He did say it appeared that SUPER CONNECTIONS performs better in races with a long run to the first turn and clearly is a better horse if allowed to lead. After the race, SUPER CONNECTIONS was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said he was unable to detect any abnormalities. The performance of SUPER CONNECTIONS, a last start winner, was considered by the Stewards to be unacceptable. Before it can race again, it will need to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPER CONNECTIONS was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
