Racing Incident Report

As T Culhane was indisposed, permission was granted for R Fradd to be substituted as the rider of ILIKETOSMILE. After being mounted for the parade, FORTUNE MAPLE became fractious and threw itself down. Acting on veterinary advice, FORTUNE MAPLE was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, the Stewards will need to be satisfied that FORTUNE MAPLE can participate in the pre-race parade satisfactorily. GLASGOW KISS left the gates awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. As a consequence of this, inconvenience was caused to BOLD'N POWER and to FRENCH CONNECTION. On jumping, MULTI-WINNER and GLORY HERO bumped. LONGMARK made the Home Turn awkwardly with its head up and in the Straight was not ridden out as D Whyte was concerned with its action. Before being allowed to race again, LONGMARK will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. When questioned, S Dye (MULTI-WINNER) explained he steadied the horse to a rearward position in the early stages in accordance with the usual practice and settled down behind HANDBAG'S HONOUR. He said MULTI-WINNER travelled satisfactorily behind this horse, but it did not go forward as he hoped it would near the 600 Metres and he shifted from behind it to be just inside ILIKETOSMILE. He pointed out he was then awkwardly placed inside ILIKETOSMILE and behind GLASGOW KISS for some time and realized he was a long way back, but he was unable to go forward. He also pointed out to improve near the 400 Metres he had to steady, come to the extreme outside and finish the race off. He did say in his opinion even had he obtained running in the middle stages MULTI-WINNER would not have figured in the finish of tonight's race. The explanations submitted by S Dye were accepted. CHATER JADE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
