Racing Incident Report

After being mounted for the parade, KINGDOM OF GOLD became fractious and threw itself down. Acting on veterinary advice, KINGDOM OF GOLD was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, the Stewards will need to be satisfied that KINGDOM OF GOLD can participate in the pre-race parade satisfactorily. The start of the race was delayed as UPTOMEEYES was difficult to load into the starting stalls and after being loaded UPTOMEEYES was fractious. The horse was released from the gates, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said it was suitable to race. Then when being reloaded UPTOMEEYES again proved difficult to handle. Before being allowed to race again, UPTOMEEYES will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. THE RICH MAN left the gates somewhat awkwardly, was then steadied when crowded for room between ARRECTIS AURIBUS and RETURN A SMILE which shifted in abruptly away from WINNING YEARS. Then in the middle stages, THE RICH MAN had a tendency to get its head up. About the 700 Metres, WINNING YEARS, which was awkwardly placed, lost its position when crowded between LUCKY CHARM and RETURN A SMILE which shifted out slightly. When questioned, D Whyte (RETURN A SMILE) said before the race the trainer told him the horse had led at its last start and he was of the opinion this did not suit RETURN A SMILE. He said tonight he was instructed by the trainer to try and ride RETURN A SMILE about midfield, ensure it was properly settled and try and make sure the horse closed the race off strongly. E Legrix (LUCKY CHARM) said before the race he was somewhat concerned with the action of the horse and he was asked by the trainer to ensure it was given a strong preliminary and to warm it up well. He said he had ridden LUCKY CHARM in some recent work which was satisfactory, however, he did say LUCKY CHARM is not a horse that does a lot of work on the track. The performance of LUCKY CHARM was of concern and before the horse can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. LUCKY CHARM was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
