Racing Incident Report
Whilst being saddled, DIVINE FEELING played up and sustained a superficial abrasion. The horse was trotted up, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultation the Veterinary Surgeon said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. On jumping, RORY'S BID shifted in and bumped the inside of its stall. When the gates opened, TAR 'N' FEATHER threw its head up and bounded in the air, then in the middle stages raced ungenerously with its head up and over the concluding stages hung out. DIVINE FEELING left the gates awkwardly. Just after the start, TOUCH DOWN was inconvenienced by CHARIOT OF STORM which momentarily shifted out. DESERT STRIKE, which came down the centre of the track from an outside gate, was inclined to race greenly, hang out and over the concluding stages was inconvenienced by COSMO STAR which was racing greenly and shifting ground. About 100 Metres out, DIVINE FEELING was shifted in abruptly to avoid TAR 'N' FEATHER and TOP QUALITY. The Stewards allowed Mr A S Cruz, trainer of CHARIOT OF STORM, an opportunity of explaining the improved performance of the horse's run when compared with its run at Sha Tin on 17 October 2001. Mr Cruz said CHARIOT OF STORM is a nicely conformed horse which he considers has ability. He said CHARIOT OF STORM is bred to get further ground than that of today's race. Mr Cruz pointed out in its first run CHARIOT OF STORM was drawn outside, was reluctant to go near other runners, hung out throughout and on the face of it ran somewhat poorly. He said CHARIOT OF STORM is a big slow learning type of horse and last year had sustained a stress fracture in the area of its stifle. He said since the Sha Tin run last month CHARIOT OF STORM has been working well and had trialed nicely on two occasions down the 1000 Metre straight and was ridden on those occasions by F Coetzee. He said CHARIOT OF STORM being such a big horse has large nostrils, but following a number of examinations it has been established the horse has a somewhat narrow larynx and under stress is prone to make a breathing noise which he is of the view will continue with the horse throughout its career. Mr Cruz said in the circumstances he along with his stable jockey did expect CHARIOT OF STORM would run better today. The explanations submitted by Mr Cruz were on this occasion accepted.
