Racing Incident Report

E Saint-Martin (REFRESHINGLY) was fined $2,000 for negligently weighing out without a girth. As a consequence of this, E Saint-Martin had to be re-weighed. HONEST STEED jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the outside of its gate. When the gates opened, TUMBLER bounded in the air, because of this lost a lot of ground. UNIVERSAL GLORY jumped very awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of MASTER MARAUDER. From an outside gate, CLEVER CITATION was ridden along to go forward. The horse took up a position towards the front, but was not able to get in, was obliged to race wide without any cover and over the concluding stages dropped out. Before racing again, CLEVER CITATION will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. On straightening, STAR DRAGON was steadied when tightened for room between BEST EVER and REFRESHINGLY which when giving ground momentarily shifted in. For a short distance near the 400 Metres, WINMARK was awkwardly placed between the hindquarters of STAR DRAGON and tight inside MONEY WINS which in turn was racing tight inside CLEVER CITATION as it was giving ground. F Coetzee (BEST EVER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that at about the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in whilst riding it along when not clear of FIGARO. As a consequence of this, FIGARO lost running to which it was rightfully entitled and was checked. The Stewards were aware this is the second occasion this racing season that F Coetzee has been suspended for careless riding, however, taking into account of all the circumstances, they were of the view that the appropriate penalty was for his licence to ride in races be suspended until Thursday 14 March 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Sha Tin next Saturday 2 March 2002. E Saint-Martin said from an outside draw his intention was to go forward and try to find some cover. He said he was unable to do this and as he was going to be racing very wide he felt it was in the best interests of REFRESHINGLY to push on and go to the front. He added that over the concluding stages however REFRESHINGLY weakened out of the race. CLEVER CITATION was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
