Racing Incident Report
HAIL WINNER and NIGHT HUNTER II were slow to begin. FIRST KNIGHT began awkwardly. STEP FORWARD began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and bumped NEW DYNASTY which as a result became badly unbalanced, blundered and lost ground. NEW DYNASTY then immediately commenced to hang out and after the 1200 Metres shifted out across the heels of POWER OF SUCCESS. NEW DYNASTY continued to hang out badly and raced wide without cover for the remainder of the race. After the 400 Metres, POWER OF SUCCESS was steadied and shifted to the outside of HIDDEN TALENT to obtain clear running. At the 300 Metres, I DELIVER was struck under the jaw by the whip of E Legrix (STEP FORWARD). K S Yu (KING HORSE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 200 Metres he shifted his mount out abruptly to the outside of I DELIVER when not clear of MISSION POSSIBLE, causing that horse to be severely hampered. HIDDEN TALENT and to a lesser extent POWER OF SUCCESS, which were following, were hampered in consequence. In the circumstances of this case, it was decided the appropriate penalty was for K S Yu's licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Monday 20 January 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday 8 January 2003. D Whyte (I DELIVER) said the horse travelled comfortably in the run behind the pace, however, when asked for an effort shortly after straightening, the horse did not let down and failed to respond to his riding. He said immediately on pulling up I DELIVER made what in his opinion was a significant breathing noise. He added he had been riding I DELIVER in some of its work, this work had been satisfactory and he was unaware of the horse having made any abnormal breathing noises previously. I DELIVER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, I DELIVER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said he was unable to detect any significant findings. BEST EVER, STEP FORWARD and FIRST KNIGHT were sent for sampling. Also after the race, NEW DYNASTY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in its right hind leg. Before NEW DYNASTY can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported HIDDEN TALENT was bleeding from both nostrils.
