Racing Incident Report

DON CARLOS was withdrawn on 22.3.03 on veterinary grounds (sore right fore tendon). Before being allowed to race again, DON CARLOS will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. CLANG'S PRIDE was difficult to load. Before being permitted to race again, CLANG'S PRIDE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. DJEREED was slow to begin. METRO FLYER was slow to begin and shortly after the start knuckled. GOLFING PARTNERS began awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 800 Metres, CLANG'S PRIDE was crowded for room by ILIKETOSMILE which got its head on the side and shifted in away from the heels of GOLFING PARTNERS. At the 800 Metres, TAKING THE LEAD, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up, became unbalanced and was checked to avoid the heels of GOLFING PARTNERS (L Dettori) which when shifting in was being steadied. KING'S SUCCESS and DJEREED, which were following, were checked in consequence. In the circumstances, it was decided L Dettori should be severely reprimanded and advised to ensure he is clear of all runners at the time of shifting ground. Near the 600 Metres, CLANG'S PRIDE was again crowded for room inside ILIKETOSMILE which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of TAKING THE LEAD. At the 300 Metres, TAKING THE LEAD was checked when disappointed for running between PORTER RICKS which shifted in slightly and GOLFING PARTNERS which when giving ground became unbalanced and shifted out. At the same time, ESCALATION was steadied when crowded for room between TAKING THE LEAD and FLASH HARRY which shifted in slightly. Near the 100 Metres, ILIKETOSMILE was hit over the head by the whip of B Prebble (ETERNAL START). KING'S SUCCESS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, KING'S SUCCESS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He reported the horse had bled from both nostrils. PORTER RICKS and FLASH HARRY were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted TAKING THE LEAD had sustained a laceration to the right hind fetlock.
