Racing Incident Report

At declaration time, J Quinn was declared as the rider of both FOOD LOVER and TEA FOR CHAMP. It was established J Quinn had a firm commitment to FOOD LOVER. Permission was given for S K Sit to be substituted as the rider of TEA FOR CHAMP. J Quinn was fined $2,000 for accepting two rides in one race. On jumping, DYNAMIC COMBO, which had drawn the outside barrier, shifted out abruptly, then making the turn at the 700 Metres hung out. Also on jumping, ASSET PLAY stumbled. FOOD LOVER was slow to begin. In the early stages, GOOD LAD proved difficult to settle. Approaching and making the turn at the 700 Metres, TOUCH DOWN hung in. After the 600 Metres, MAXIMUM JOY commenced to hang out. Just prior to the winning post, the visor being used by A Marcus became dislodged from his helmet. Apprentice M W Leung (GO GET THEM) explained the intention had been to ride the horse in midfield. He said previously when he had ridden the horse, it had proved very difficult to settle and on a number of occasions went close to clipping heels. He said because of this he does not ride GO GET THEM along in the early stages in the hope that it would settle, however, when being ridden quietly in the early stages today, GO GET THEM got further back than was anticipated and raced at the rear, then approaching the 800 Metres commenced to over-race, got close to the heels of TOUCH DOWN and because of this he shifted GO GET THEM to the outside of PRETTY DOUBLE to ensure he had clear running. He said in the Straight GO GET THEM finished the race off fairly, however, he noted in the run to the line the horse was unable to take any ground off TOUCH DOWN. Apprentice M W Leung's explanations were accepted. S Dye (ASSET PLAY) said the horse, which was having its first start on the All Weather surface today, had worked and trialed well on the surface previously. He said after stumbling at the start, ASSET PLAY never fully recovered and whilst it may have appeared to be travelling comfortably, was not travelling on the bit the way it usually was and in his opinion the incident at the start was the reason for the horse's poor performance. ASSET PLAY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of ASSET PLAY after the race did not show any significant findings. PRESENT TREASURE, MAXIMUM JOY and STAR WARRIOR were sent for sampling.
