Racing Incident Report
PERPETUAL PLEASURE began awkwardly from the outside gate, was immediately steadied and taken across behind runners to a position on the fence but at the rear. KING OF FIELD began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall, then was steadied away from the heels of MILLENNIUM SPIRIT which on jumping was taken out by MIGHTY HUGO. Near the 1600 Metres, KING OF FIELD was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between MILLENNIUM SPIRIT and GOOD HEART which shifted out slightly. Shortly after straightening, DIAMOND MOON was shifted out from behind CHERISHED which was giving ground. For some distance after this, DIAMOND MOON was awkwardly placed close to the heels of RESOURCEFUL PRINCE. Over about the final 200 Metres, PERPETUAL PLEASURE had difficulty obtaining clear running and as a consequence was not properly tested. For some distance after the 100 Metres, GOOD HEART had difficulty obtaining clear running when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MILLENNIUM SPIRIT. Apprentice P H Lo (CHERISHED) said he had been instructed to try and ensure the horse left the gates cleanly tonight, then to go forward and cross to the fence. He said he rode in accordance with those instructions in the early stages and after crossing to the fence in the lead the other runners sat off him, he elected to continue on leading as CHERISHED was proving somewhat difficult to settle. Mr D Hill, trainer of CHERISHED, confirmed the instructions and said they arose as a result of the anticipated lack of speed in tonight's race and the fact that CHERISHED had not been closing its races off as he would have liked in recent starts when being ridden further back despite not being beaten by large margins. The explanations submitted by Apprentice P H Lo and Mr D Hill were accepted. KING OF FIELD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, KING OF FIELD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. XLERATE and MIGHTY HUGO were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 23 October 2003)
KING OF FIELD, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. KING OF FIELD was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer S T Wong this morning and at this time was reported to be "jarred up" in the left front fetlock. Before being allowed to race again, KING OF FIELD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
