Racing Incident Report
BULLISH LUCK began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. At the 1000 Metres, BOWMAN'S CROSSING was momentarily crowded for room between MULTIWINNING and GIFT which shifted in slightly. Making the Home Turn, MULTIWINNING was checked when crowded for room between GIFT and MAGNIFIER which when improving to the outside of OCELOT was taken out by that horse which in turn had been carried wider by BULLISH LUCK which in turn had been carried out slightly by LUCKY OWNERS. In the circumstances, it was decided no action be taken. F Coetzee (LUCKY OWNERS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at about the 50 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of LIBERAL'S CHOICE and HELENE MOMENTUM, causing those horses to lose their rightful running and be checked. F Coetzee was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 16 November 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Tuesday 4 November 2003. The performance of SURVEYOR, which finished detached from the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SURVEYOR will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. J Quinn (RED SUN) said he had been instructed by the trainer, Mr A S Cruz, to ride the horse along in the early stages as when the horse had previously won, it had raced in a forward position. He said RED SUN began only fairly, he then rode along vigorously to follow the instructions he had been issued and shifted across to race beside LIBERAL'S CHOICE. He said at the 800 Metres RED SUN dipped rather badly and after this hung out and appeared awkward in its action and in the Straight gave ground noticeably. The performance of RED SUN was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, RED SUN will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RED SUN and SURVEYOR were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, RED SUN and SURVEYOR were examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. LUCKY OWNERS and BULLISH LUCK were sent for sampling.
