Racing Incident Report
During its preliminary, PREMIER CRU proved difficult to manage and when nearing the barriers dislodged G Schofield, its rider. PREMIER CRU was recaptured behind the barriers, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. PREMIER CRU was slow to begin and then tailed out. The performance of PREMIER CRU was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BEAMING RIVER threw its head up at the start. HK ISLAND VICTORY, which was standing badly, began awkwardly. At the 800 Metres, SWISS LAD and KING'S SUCCESS bumped. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, KAO AND MING raced awkwardly and hung out, because of this HONOUR GRADE was carried wider. After the 200 Metres, G Mossé (KING'S SUCCESS) was struck on the left hand by the whip of D Dunn (SWISS LAD). Apprentice M W Leung (MASCOT) explained he had intended to ride the horse in 2nd or 3rd position. He said on jumping MASCOT threw its head about and lost some ground, he then rode his mount along in an attempt to go forward, however, it failed to muster speed, then near the 1000 Metres he steadied to avoid KAO AND KING which was shifting towards the rail. He said as a consequence MASCOT raced much further back than was anticipated. SWISS LAD and KING'S SUCCESS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported HONOUR GRADE had bled from both nostrils.
