Racing Incident Report

BY MEMORY was difficult to load and then after being boxed became fractions. Before being permitted to race again, BY MEMORY will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. TOM'S FIRST and MADE JOY were slow to begin. On jumping, BY MEMORY and MIGHTY HUGO bumped. At the 1300 Metres, BY MEMORY was brushed by LITTLE ELEPHANT which shifted out after making contact with SPARKLING STAR. At the 800 Metres, BY MEMORY and AMBITIOUS TYCOON bumped. FINE SOCIETY, which was following, was steadied in consequence. K McEvoy (THUNDER STORM) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in about the third position if possible. He said after being boxed THUNDER STORM was very fractious and reared, then when the gates opened began only fairly and runners to his inside showed more pace than he anticipated, therefore he was caught wide initially outside LUCKY LAD. He said when he felt he was not going to be able to cross and race in a forward position, he elected to steady his mount after the 1200 Metres in the hope of being able to obtain cover behind AMBITIOUS TYCOON, however, as he did this FINE SOCIETY improved on his inside which meant he remained racing wide without cover and further back than he had been instructed. He said then in the Straight THUNDER STORM failed to close the race off. The explanation of K McEvoy was recorded. D Whyte (LITTLE ELEPHANT) said the horse enjoyed a nice run throughout the race, however, failed to respond when placed under pressure after straightening. He said he became concerned with the horse's action over the final 200 Metres, therefore did not ride it out as he normally would. He said following the race LITTLE ELEPHANT appeared to be breathing heavily and did not trot back to scale as he would expect. LITTLE ELEPHANT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, LITTLE ELEPHANT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the presence of a small amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LITTLE ELEPHANT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FINE SOCIETY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, FINE SOCIETY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FINE SOCIETY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WINTROW and TOM'S FIRST were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 2 January 2004)
LITTLE ELEPHANT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time an endoscopic examination showed the presence of a small amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. LITTLE ELEPHANT was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A T Millard this morning. He said at this time the horse had some restriction of its forelimb action and both fetlocks appeared to be warm and moderately inflamed. As previously advised, LITTLE ELEPHANT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
