Racing Incident Report

LUCKY SUPERSTAR was slow to begin. On jumping, BARAKA and DOLPHIN STAR bumped. From the outside gate, DOUBLE PLEASURE was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position on the rail but at the rear. In the early stages, SHOW BRAVELY hung in. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, CHERISHED was awkwardly placed inside the hindquarters of FUJI SUNRISE. Shortly after straightening, DOUBLE PLEASURE was steadied and shifted to the outside of SPECIFIC SORCEROR into clear running. Near the 300 Metres, SHOW BRAVELY got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly. For the major part of the race, MAIN ATTRACTION raced wide and without cover in a forward position, then in the Straight gave ground. After the 100 Metres, MAIN ATTRACTION, which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied when crowded for room between HAPPY HEROES and LUCKY SUPERSTAR. Apprentice H W Lai (HAPPY HEROES) explained the sheepskin seat cover on his saddle loosened during the race. When questioned regarding the improved performance of FUJI SUNRISE compared with its last start, Mr D A Hayes, the trainer of the horse, said in recent starts the horse had drawn wide barriers when racing in blinkers and it was felt the horse would be best suited being taken back and ridden with cover. He said in his opinion the horse at its last start which was on rain affected going did not handle the track conditions and it was the most disappointing performance in the horse's career. He said after the race it was decided to remove the blinkers from FUJI SUNRISE as in his opinion they were providing no benefit to the horse. He said after drawing a better barrier today FUJI SUNRISE was able to travel in a more forward position without use being made of the horse and still ensuring it had cover. Mr Hayes believed FUJI SUNRISE benefited today with the removal of blinkers and firmer racing surface. The explanation submitted by Mr Hayes was accepted. MAIN ATTRACTION was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MAIN ATTRACTION after the race did not show any significant findings. NATURAL ECHO, FUJI SUNRISE and BARRACUDA were sent for sampling.
