Racing Incident Report

As P Payne, the declared rider of LIAOBUQI, was found to be overweight, permission was given for S Dye to be substituted. As this was the second occasion in a short space of time that P Payne was found to be overweight, necessitating a change of rider, P Payne was fined a sum of $8,000. MAJESTIC FEELING was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards bumped with LUCKY GALLOPER which began awkwardly and shifted in. On jumping, LIAOBUQI was bumped by SHARE THE FUN which got its head on the side and shifted in. In the middle stages, LUCKY TRIO hung out. Near the 200 Metres, SHARE THE FUN was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between MAJESTIC FEELING and SUN POWER which when hanging in shifted ground. SUN POWER continued to hang in in the run to the line. For the major part of the race, SUGAR AND SWEET hung in and in the Straight grave ground and finished tailed off. The performance of SUGAR AND SWEET was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUGAR AND SWEET will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. G Mossé (WHATA FEELING) said over 1200 Metres on the dirt the horse did not show its customary early speed. He said he therefore allowed it to travel where it was comfortable albeit much further back than is usual. He said in the Straight WHATA FEELING did not quicken and raced in a manner which indicated it would be better suited by distances of further than today's race and also on turf. R Fradd (SUPER SPRINT) explained when he placed his mount under pressure shortly after straightening, it did not quicken as he had hoped. He said for a short distance he eased his riding, however, shortly afterwards he sat down and rode the horse out hands and heels. He said whilst it did make some ground, the manner in which the horse raced indicated to him it would be better suited by distances of further than 1200 Metres of today's race. BILLET EXPRESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BILLET EXPRESS after the race did not show any significant findings. SUN POWER and SHARE THE FUN were sent for sampling.
