Racing Incident Report

Just prior to the gates opening, OKEYDOKEY became fractious, threw its head about, then began very awkwardly, lost ground and consequently got well back. BRILLIANT EXPRESS was slow to begin. On jumping, TAKING THE LEAD was crowded for room between KIMBO KID and LUCKY GALLOPER, both of which shifted ground. Shortly after this, LUCKY GALLOPER was checked when crowded for room between TAKING THE LEAD which shifted out and SUPREME MOLLY which shifted in away from FLYING SPRINTER. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, KING OF WIN brushed the running rail. From a wide barrier, HELENE ELEGANCE was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position with cover. HELENE ELEGANCE then proved very difficult to settle in the middle stages. Near the 700 Metres, SUPREME MOLLY, which for some distance had been racing tight inside FLYING SPRINTER (H K Yim), was steadied to avoid the heels of that horse which shifted in when not properly clear. HELENE ELEGANCE, which continued to prove difficult to settle, was checked to avoid the heels of SUPREME MOLLY. H K Yim was reprimanded and told he must exercise more care. For some distance after straightening, KING OF WIN had difficulty obtaining clear running when behind FLYING SPRINTER. Near the 200 Metres, KING OF WIN was steadied and shifted to the outside of FLYING SPRINTER into clear running. Over the concluding stages, LUCKY GALLOPER shifted in. E Saint-Martin (BRAVE KNIGHT) said he had been instructed to endeavour to obtain a good position. He said he was of the opinion KIMBO KID and NEW MILESTONE would go forward with OKEYDOKEY and he hoped to be able to obtain a position somewhere behind them. He said when OKEYDOKEY did not begin well, he was able to ride along and making the turn at the 1000 Metres obtained a position behind the lead. He said whilst this might have been further forward than the horse has usually raced, he was not overly surprised as in its work BRAVE KNIGHT had shown some progression in recent times. Mr C H Yip, trainer of BRAVE KNIGHT, confirmed the instructions issued and said he thought this would mean the horse would be somewhere around midfield or slightly behind. He said he was somewhat surprised BRAVE KNIGHT had been able to travel as far forward as it did. NEW MILESTONE, BRAVE KNIGHT and TAKING THE LEAD were sent for sampling. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that after having been loaded for transport back to Sha Tin following this race, SUPREME MOLLY became distressed and collapsed in the transporter.
