Racing Incident Report
LIGHTNING STAR and SPECIAL KING PRAWN were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, GOOD PROFIT and LUCKY GOOD DAY raced tight between RED POWER and TOWN OF FIONN which shifted out. In the early stages, FIFTY FIFTY, SPECIAL KING PRAWN and LUCKY GOOD DAY proved difficult to settle. On straightening, STAY YOUNG shifted out from behind SCINTILLATION and bumped the hindquarters of RED POWER. After this, on several occasions, STAY YOUNG was bumped by RED POWER when racing tight inside that horse. After the 200 Metres, SPECIAL KING PRAWN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HIGH INTELLIGENT. Over the concluding stages, TOWN OF FIONN and SPECIAL KING PRAWN raced tight when endeavouring to improve between SAMBUCA and HIGH INTELLIGENT. In this incident, SPECIAL KING PRAWN was hit over the head by the whip of S Dye (HIGH INTELLIGENT). After the 100 Metres, FIFTY FIFTY, which was closing the race off, was steadied when unable to obtain clear running between RED POWER which was giving ground and TOWN OF FIONN. After this, FIFTY FIFTY had difficulty obtaining clear running in the run to the winning post. For the majority of the Home Straight, TOWN OF FIONN was unable to obtain clear running and because of this was not properly tested. Throughout the race, SAMBUCA raced three wide and without cover in a forward position. The Stewards delayed the declaration of weighed-in while they considered whether BEST GIFT had had an unfair start. After viewing all the available videos and considering the evidence submitted by Mr J Moore, the trainer of BEST GIFT, together with the evidence of Mr P Waldron, the Starter, it was established as the start was effected BEST GIFT reared, sat down behind, then began very awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground. After this, BEST GIFT trailed the field throughout. In those circumstances, the Stewards were of the opinion BEST GIFT had not had an unfair start and therefore the horse was deemed to be a runner. Before being allowed to race again, BEST GIFT will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. BEST GIFT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, BEST GIFT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had blood present at the right nostril, however, an endoscopic examination showed the horse's trachea to be clean. Therefore BEST GIFT was not deemed to have bled. GRAND ZULU, SCINTILLATION and SAMBUCA were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted GRAND ZULU had lost its right hind plate and SPECIAL KING PRAWN had blood present at its mouth due to a laceration to the tongue. Also after the race, LUCKY GOOD DAY was examined by the Veterinary Officer at the request of Mr A S Cruz, the horse's trainer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY GOOD DAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 14 February 2005)
The Senior Veterinary Surgeon has today advised Stewards that GRAND ZULU sustained a wound to its right hind fetlock during the running of this race.
