Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, BALL OF FIRE bounded in the air and lost ground. PRO JOY began awkwardly. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, OLIVE OR TWIST was crowded for room inside HEALTHY FRUITS which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FREEBIRD which itself got its head on the side and shifted in away from MASTER YING. Near the 1300 Metres, FRIENDSHIP got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of HEALTHY FRUITS. After the 1300 Metres, STOIC and FRIENDSHIP bumped when FRIENDSHIP was racing tight inside AMBITIOUS LEADER. Near the 1100 Metres, FRIENDSHIP again got its head up, shifted out and lost ground when being steadied away from the heels of TELECOM SUPERBOSS. Near the 1000 Metres, M Rodd (SHINING DRAGON) steadied the pace when leading. As a consequence of this, MASTER YING, which was proving a little difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of SHINING DRAGON. In turn OLIVE OR TWIST was checked away from the heels of MASTER YING, causing MADE IN HONGKONG which was following to be steadied and shifted out, carrying STOIC out, as a result of which BALL OF FIRE was checked, shifted out, clipped the heels of PRO JOY and blundered. M Rodd was advised to exercise care when steadying the pace in a race while leading. Near the 900 Metres, FREEBIRD was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of TELECOM SUPERBOSS which momentarily shifted in. After this, TELECOM SUPERBOSS shifted back out and continued to race three wide and without cover throughout. Near the 250 Metres, MADE IN HONGKONG was steadied when disappointed for running between STOIC and FRIENDSHIP, both of which shifted ground. Also near the 250 Metres, MASTER YING was steadied and shifted to the outside of SHINING DRAGON when disappointed for running on the inside of that horse. Near the 100 Metres, MASTER YING was struck over the head by the whip of M Rodd. Just prior to the winning post, SHINING DRAGON was brushed by MASTER YING when racing tight inside that horse. Also just prior to the winning post, PRO JOY was brushed by BALL OF FIRE which shifted in slightly. When questioned regarding the poor performance of FRIENDSHIP, Apprentice M W Leung said after being crowded for a considerable distance after the 1300 Metres the horse did not appear comfortable and was reluctant to stride out as he thought it should. He said in his opinion the crowding received by FRIENDSHIP upset the horse and contributed to the performance. FRIENDSHIP was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of FRIENDSHIP after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of FRIENDSHIP was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, FRIENDSHIP will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MASTER YING and SHINING DRAGON were sent for sampling.
