Racing Incident Report

SYLLABUS was withdrawn on 20.6.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SPECIFIC SORCEROR (C Williams). Before being allowed to race again, SYLLABUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, TATTLETALE got its head up, bounded in the air and lost a considerable amount of ground at the start. Before being allowed to race again, TATTLETALE will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. CASH SURPRISE, which was standing badly, began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1100 Metres, WATCHMAN was steadied when crowded for room between GOODWOOD and CASH SURPRISE which shifted in slightly. At the 600 Metres, SPECTACULAR HIT was crowded for room inside CUPID. Near the 250 Metres, SPECTACULAR HIT was bumped by WATCHMAN which shifted in. When questioned regarding the improved performance of the winner, NOBLE BOSS, Mr K L Man, trainer of the horse, said when it arrived in Hong Kong NOBLE BOSS was allocated a rating of 90. He said the horse had performed poorly, consequently had relief in the ratings and was tonight running off 42. He said tonight was the first time NOBLE BOSS had raced on rain affected going since its arrival. He did point out NOBLE BOSS was bred to run well on rain affected tracks. Mr Man further pointed out tonight was the first occasion in recent times that NOBLE BOSS had drawn a favourable barrier and as such from the inside stall the horse was able to obtain a nice run throughout. He did say he had not altered the work of NOBLE BOSS leading into tonight's race. He added as NOBLE BOSS had run well when previously ridden by Y T Cheng, he again sought the services of that jockey tonight. He said he did give NOBLE BOSS some chance in tonight's race and had advised the owners accordingly. Mr Man was told his explanation would be reported, however, he was to ensure where possible horses trained by him perform consistently. PACIFIC ALLIANCE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PACIFIC ALLIANCE after the race did not show any significant findings. SPECTACULAR HIT, NOBLE BOSS and OUT OF MY WAY were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that OUT OF MY WAY had sustained a laceration to the left hind heel and had also lost its left hind plate.
