Racing Incident Report

SHARE THE FUN was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, SHARE THE FUN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ONE STEP AHEAD began awkwardly and lost ground. In the early stages, CARELESS WHISPER proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up, then in the middle stages hung out. The Stewards overruled the protest/objection lodged by B Prebble, the rider of GALLANT KNIGHT which finished 2nd against WIN AGAIN (E Saint-Martin) being declared the winner. B Prebble had alleged interference to his mount near the 800 Metres. The Stewards believed whilst WIN AGAIN which had been hanging in shifted some ground near the 800 Metres and caused crowding to GALLANT KNIGHT which as a result lost its position, they did not consider bearing in mind where the incident occurred and the one and a quarter length margin between the two horses at the finish that GALLANT KNIGHT would have finished in front of WIN AGAIN had the interference which did take place not occurred. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. Subsequently E Saint-Martin was advised whilst the Stewards accepted his horse was hanging in he must at all times do his utmost to allow runners to his inside comfortable racing room. In the middle stages, FORTE hung out, then in the Straight hung in, causing crowding on its inside to GREEN WARRIOR for some distance after the 400 Metres. For some distance near the 100 Metres, Apprentice H W Lai (SHINING DRAGON) dropped his left rein. When attempting to regain this rein, Apprentice Lai dropped his whip. Throughout the race, SABRE AND GOLD raced wide and without cover. S Dye (LUCKY STRAVINSKY) said the intention had been to ride the horse in a forward position. He said after being boxed LUCKY STRAVINSKY became fractious and prior to the gates opening lunged forward. He said after this LUCKY STRAVINSKY sat back, the gates then opened and as a consequence LUCKY STRAVINSKY was about one half length slow to begin. He said when this happened CARELESS WHISPER which had been drawn to his outside immediately crossed in front of him and it became apparent that he would not be able to obtain a forward position on the horse. He said therefore he allowed LUCKY STRAVINSKY to become balanced and when HAPPY MASTER shifted in front of him he elected to follow that horse as he felt it would carry him into the race well. He said making the turn at the 800 Metres LUCKY STRAVINSKY hung out. He said after this the horse travelled well and in the Straight made ground in a manner which indicated it would be in the finish, however, in his opinion LUCKY STRAVINSKY's run ended short of the line. S Dye was told whilst the Stewards accepted the reason for LUCKY STRAVINSKY being slow to begin he must at all times ensure he avails himself with the most advantageous position available to him in the run. HAPPY MASTER, WIN AGAIN and GALLANT KNIGHT were sent for sampling.
