Racing Incident Report
SELF FLIT began awkwardly and lost ground. AGILITY bounded in the air as the gates opened. FIVE GRAINS began awkwardly and lost ground. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the view an incident had occurred after the 400 Metres which cast doubt on whether CHEEKY should be declared the winner of the race. M Rodd, the rider of BEST GIFT, 3rd placegetter, also lodged a protest/objection against CHEEKY (C Brown) being declared the winner alleging interference to his mount after the 400 Metres. The Stewards were of the opinion that after the 400 Metres BEST GIFT was shifted to the outside of AGILITY into clear running and as BEST GIFT was shifting out, CHEEKY shifted in slightly, resulting in contact being made with the hindquarters of CHEEKY which was turned in across the running of BEST GIFT which was checked. As the Stewards believed the incident resulted from the shifting of ground of both BEST GIFT and CHEEKY, the protest/objection was overruled and accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. Near the 350 Metres, PALETTE NATURAL was steadied and shifted in away from BEST GIFT. Over the final 250 Metres, WEALTHY hung out and passing the 200 Metres caused some inconvenience to FIVE GRAINS. The performances of SUCCESSIVE GAINS and SELF FLIT, which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUCCESSIVE GAINS and SELF FLIT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Apprentice H W Lai (THE KING) reported his saddle slipped back near the 300 Metres. The Stewards opened an inquiry into the manner in which THE KING was ridden today as compared with the manner in which it was ridden over the same course and distance at its last start on Sunday 11 September 2005. Evidence was taken from Apprentice H W Lai who rode THE KING today, B Prebble who rode THE KING at its last start and Mr A T Millard, trainer of THE KING. The inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed to allow the Stewards to further consider the evidence submitted. CHEEKY and WEALTHY were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported SELF FLIT had lost its left front plate.
