Racing Incident Report

AMBITION was slow to begin, then shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of BARAKA. With the intention of being ridden in a rearward position from its outside barrier, CALCANDO was steadied and taken back in the early stages. On jumping, DR HAENSLER and CHOICE AND CHANCE bumped. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, AMBITION hung out. At the 700 Metres, EXCELLENT BOY was carried wider by ROCKET WIN which was checked and shifted out to avoid the heels of RAINBOW EXPRESS which when being steadied away from the heels of WINNING BULLET got its head up and shifted out. Shortly after straightening, ROCKET WIN was steadied when crowded for room between EXCELLENT BOY and AMBITION which was carried out slightly by RAINBOW EXPRESS. Near the 200 Metres, EXCELLENT BOY and AMBITION were steadied when crowded for room between RAINBOW EXPRESS which got its head on the side and shifted out away from WINNING BULLET and CALCANDO which got its head on the side and shifted in while hanging. No action was taken. At the 200 Metres, BARAKA, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was checked to avoid the heels of DR HAENSLER. At the 150 Metres, DR HAENSLER, which was giving ground, was checked when crowded for room between BUDDIES POWER which shifted out slightly away from POCKET MONEY which itself was drifting out and TOP SCORER which when held up for running shifted in slightly. Over the concluding stages, WINNING BULLET shifted out. R Fradd (TOP SCORER) said he had discussed the manner in which the horse should be ridden with Trainer D J Hall prior to the race. He said it was decided from the outside barrier that TOP SCORER should be taken back and shift to the fence to ensure it was not obliged to race wide and without cover. He said TOP SCORER had performed well in a recent barrier trial when ridden in a similar manner and he did say the distance of today's race was less than the horse had been racing over at the end of last season. He said TOP SCORER travelled satisfactorily on the rail at the rear of the field, after straightening he was not able to shift to the outside, he therefore endeavoured to find running through the field, however, near the 300 Metres was held up when racing behind WINNING BULLET. He said he continued to endeavour to find clear running and follow WINNING BULLET through and TOP SCORER finished fairly, however, its run ended short of the line. WINNING BULLET and POCKET MONEY were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported SEVEN STARS was noted to have swelling over the right stifle. Before being allowed to race again, SEVEN STARS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, the Veterinary Officer reported EXCELLENT BOY had lost its left front plate.
