Racing Incident Report
COMPASSIONATE was withdrawn on 12.12.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right fore tendon injury) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CARE FREE PRINCE (D Whyte). Before being allowed to race again, COMPASSIONATE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, DANSKE VERY MUCH got its head up and as a consequence lost ground. FEBURO began awkwardly. RED WINE HONEY was slow to begin. With the intention of being ridden quietly tonight, EAST OCEAN DRAGON when being steadied after the start became unbalanced. After the 800 Metres, DANSKE VERY MUCH, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being checked away from the heels of FEBURO. In the early part of the Straight, WAIT FOR ME hung out. Near the 400 Metres, FEBURO was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of DANSING FUN which was giving ground. After the 400 Metres, EAST OCEAN DRAGON was checked when crowded for room between ESPOIR D'OR which was giving ground and GLORY YEARS (G Mossé) which shifted in. G Mossé was advised to exercise care. Over the final 200 Metres, GLORY YEARS hung in and proved difficult to ride. Just prior to the winning post, FEBURO became unbalanced when racing inside the heels of GLORY YEARS. Throughout the race, PRESENT TREASURE raced wide and without cover and making the Home Turn hung out. When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, Y T Cheng (FILEBO) said he had discussed tonight's race with Trainer T W Leung this morning. He said at its last start FILEBO did not begin well, then was allowed to go forward in the middle stages and as a consequence did not finish the race off. He said it was decided FILEBO with the blinkers removed tonight and from the outside barrier was to be ridden quietly in an endeavour to have the horse close the race off and it would be best to make his run in the Straight on the outside. He said in the early and middle stages he travelled at the rear in a position three wide with cover, then on straightening he commenced to ride FILEBO along hands and heels in an endeavour to have it pick up which the horse did do. He said having in mind the intention to make his run on the outside, near the 300 Metres he shifted to the outside of RED WINE HONEY and made contact with MASTER DREAMER. He acknowledged that as he shifted to the outside of RED WINE HONEY a clear run was presenting itself on the inside of that horse, however, he believed because of his instructions, the opportunity to make his run on the outside of RED WINE HONEY was of equal advantage. He said after this at the 200 Metres he hit FILEBO with the whip on one occasion, the horse responded, however, raced greenly, became unbalanced in its action and because of this he rode it out in the run to the line hands and heels whilst it was closing off strongly. Mr Leung confirmed the intention of how FILEBO was to be ridden and said whilst he could understand the Stewards' concern regarding Y T Cheng's riding in the Straight, he was nonetheless in the circumstances satisfied. He did say FILEBO had shown little previously and had also raced greenly. He did add FILEBO is a nervous horse even in the stable and because of this he finds it hard to put condition on the horse. Mr Leung did say if Y T Cheng is available to ride the horse at its next start, his services will be sought. Y T Cheng was told his riding in the Straight had come under notice and he should ensure at all times he rides his mounts in a manner which does not leave any room for query. Mr Leung was told his explanation would be reported. PRESENT TREASURE and FILEBO were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PRESENT TREASURE and FILEBO after the race did not show any significant findings. CARE FREE PRINCE and PO ON GEM were sent for sampling.
