Racing Incident Report

CHOICE AND CHANCE was slow to begin. QI'S PET began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped REAL SURPRISE. LUCKY DRAGON began awkwardly. CHECK MATE was crowded for room at the start between PICTURE PERFECT which shifted out and SUPREME CLASS which shifted in after beginning awkwardly. Apprentice C W Wong (ENRICHING) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 1200 Metres when insufficiently clear of GOLD MEDAL WINNER, resulting in that horse being hampered and taken across the running of HAPPY KID which was also hampered. Near the 1000 Metres, CHOICE AND CHANCE, which was racing fiercely, was crowded for room between REAL SURPRISE and SPACED which shifted in momentarily. CHECK MATE, which was following, was hampered in consequence. CHOICE AND CHANCE then continued to over-race and near the 800 Metres was steadied away from the heels of SPACED. REAL SURPRISE lay out in the Straight. When questioned, E Saint-Martin (SPARKLING STAR) said the tempo of the race had been good and therefore he was reluctant to put too much pressure on SPARKLING STAR prior to the Home Turn. He said rounding the Home Turn he commenced to ride SPARKLING STAR along, the horse initially did not respond to his riding, however, shortly after entering the Home Straight commenced to finish the race off well. SUPREME CLASS and SPARKLING STAR were sent for sampling.
