Racing Incident Report

EUPHORIC KID was slow to begin. ISLAND SPIRIT began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1100 Metres, EVEREST was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed between SMARTY FACE and CHAMP DE UNION. Approaching and passing the 800 Metres, LIBERAL'S RIDE got its head on the side and hung in away from SHINING DRAGON. At the 750 Metres, LIBERAL'S RIDE got its head up and shifted out when being checked to avoid the heels of SHINING DRAGON (Apprentice K T Yeung) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Yeung was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to ensure he is clear of other runners before shifting ground. On straightening, EUPHORIC KID was shifted out to obtain clear running. At the 250 Metres, HAPPY ASH, which got its head on the side and shifted in, was straightened. Near the 200 Metres, KING PALM was shifted to the outside of LIBERAL'S RIDE which was giving ground. Over the concluding stages, EUPHORIC KID hung in. Throughout the race, MASTER YING travelled wide and without cover. D Whyte (LIBERAL'S RIDE) said his mount became awkward after the 400 Metres and then did not respond to his riding. LIBERAL'S RIDE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, LIBERAL'S RIDE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LIBERAL'S RIDE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CHAMP DE UNION was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHAMP DE UNION after the race did not show any significant findings. BUDDIES SPIRIT and EUPHORIC KID were sent for sampling.
