Racing Incident Report
THE GOODIES began awkwardly. Over the concluding stages, PACKING HERO was not able to obtain clear running and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race. Prior to the winning post, FANTASY was steadied away from the heels of SUPER SNIPPETS. Throughout the race, ROMANTIC GREEN travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. When questioned, Apprentice C W Wong (BULLDOZER) said he had been instructed to have the horse begin well and endeavour to find a forward position with cover. He said he rode BULLDOZER along in the early stages to clear runners to his inside and then endeavoured after reaching the lead to steady the pace, intending for another runner to improve around his outside and provide him with cover. He said after reaching the lead BULLDOZER proved difficult for him to settle, went at a faster tempo than intended and maintained the lead. Mr C H Yip, trainer of the horse, confirmed the riding instructions issued to Apprentice Wong and said in the past BULLDOZER had proved somewhat difficult to settle after being ridden to obtain a forward position. He said in the circumstances he was satisfied with the riding of Apprentice Wong. Apprentice Wong was told where circumstances permit he should ensure he does his utmost to follow the riding instructions issued to him. SPLENDOUR GOLD and PACKING HERO were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SPLENDOUR GOLD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Also after the race, PACKING HERO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SPLENDOUR GOLD and PACKING HERO will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JOY AND FUN and VIKING TOR were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 27 December 2006)
SPLENDOUR GOLD, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. SPLENDOUR GOLD was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C W Chang this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be mildly lame in the left front leg. As previously advised, SPLENDOUR GOLD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being permitted to race again.
