Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, it was noted TOWERING FEELING had lost its right front plate. This plate was refitted. TOWERING FEELING was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. PRETTY TRIO began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped ROYAL PERICLES. DIAMOND BRILLIANCE was slow to begin. In the early and middle stages, ROYAL PERICLES proved difficult to settle. Making the Home Turn, MAVERICK STAR was carried wider by PRETTY TRIO. At the 300 Metres, BYRON was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed inside ELEGANT WIN. At the 200 Metres, PHANTOM THIEF was carried wider by TOWERING FEELING which shifted out. For the major part of the race, YOUNG HERO travelled wide and without cover. Y T Cheng (MAVERICK STAR) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in midfield, however, he was to ensure he obtained a position with cover. He said from a wide barrier in a quickly run race he was required to go back to a rearward position in order to obtain cover and as a consequence travelled further back than instructed. S Dye (DR GREEN) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in the first three positions. He said he did not want to follow NOBLE CRUSADER which had drawn the inside barrier, he therefore rode along to cross that horse in the early stages. He said shortly after this as anticipated BOBO WIN came across from its wide barrier to race on his outside. He said when this happened, because DR GREEN had in the past raced ungenerously, he elected to maintain his position inside BOBO WIN. He said if he steadied DR GREEN, he believed the horse would again make the turns awkwardly. He did say DR GREEN travelled keenly in the middle stages. Following the race, D Nikolic (DIAMOND BRILLIANCE) reported the horse felt short in its action in front. DIAMOND BRILLIANCE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DIAMOND BRILLIANCE after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, DIAMOND BRILLIANCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TOWERING FEELING and ELEGANT WIN were sent for sampling.
