Racing Incident Report

PEACH BLOSSOM was withdrawn on 8.4.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, PEACH BLOSSOM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. O Doleuze (MUTUAL GAIN) was fined $2,000 for initially weighing out with two girths. PERFECT ATHLETE began awkwardly and blundered. JOY AND TREASURE, which was standing badly, was slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, JOYFUL WORLD failed to muster speed and got well back. Near the 1000 Metres, WAFER KING was steadied when awkwardly placed inside GOOD TO GREAT which had its head on the side and shifted in away from MASTER YING. Near the 800 Metres, JOYFUL WORLD was steadied to avoid the heels of GOOD TO GREAT (D Whyte) which shifted in when not properly clear. D Whyte was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Also near the 800 Metres, AMBITION became unbalanced when awkwardly placed inside MAINLAND MASTER which throughout the race travelled wide and without cover. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, MASTER YING was steadied to allow WAVY PEAK to cross. After the 800 Metres, JOY AND TREASURE proved difficult to settle. Approaching and passing the 300 Metres, MUTUAL GAIN had difficulty obtaining clear running. At the 250 Metres, MUTUAL GAIN was shifted to the outside of WAVY PEAK into clear running and then for a considerable distance raced tight inside MAINLAND MASTER which in the Straight hung in. For the majority of the Home Straight, JOY AND TREASURE had difficulty obtaining clear running. In the Straight, GOOD TO GREAT hung in. W M Lai (JOY AND TREASURE) explained after being held up and unable to obtain clear running, when clear running did present itself after the 50 Metres between WAVY PEAK and MUTUAL GAIN, he felt MUTUAL GAIN was shifting ground on his outside. He said because of this he felt the run which was available to him might close. Bearing in mind the margin between JOY AND TREASURE and the placegetters, W M Lai was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to ensure he avails himself of opportunities to ride his mounts out to the end of the race where circumstances permit. When questioned regarding REWARDING STAR travelling in a forward position today, Mr T S Wong, assistant trainer to Mr J Moore, said because of the anticipated moderate tempo of the race, from a favourable draw Y T Cheng had been instructed to have the horse in a forward position if possible. He said at its most recent start when ridden by Jockey W M Lai, the riding instructions were to have the horse in 5th or 6th position if possible from a wider draw. W M Lai confirmed the riding instructions issued to him and said on that occasion after beginning fairly he noted FORTUNE GOLD which had drawn to his inside being ridden to go forward. He said he anticipated FORTUNE GOLD would travel in front of midfield, therefore he shifted REWARDING STAR to a position behind that horse. He said as a consequence of FORTUNE GOLD getting further back than intended, REWARDING STAR as a result was also obliged to travel further back than intended. Apprentice P H Lo (SPY KING) reported at no stage during the race did the horse stride out as he thought it should and because he was concerned with the horse's action, he did not ride it out in the Home Straight as he normally would. The performance of SPY KING, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SPY KING will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPY KING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SPY KING after the race did not show any significant findings. MUTUAL GAIN, REWARDING STAR and MAINLAND MASTER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported WAVY PEAK and SUPER BONUS had bled from both nostrils.
