Racing Incident Report

MONTY was a little slow to begin and then shortly afterwards was checked severely when crowded for room between PRIDEOFTHEORIENT and LAMBRO which was carried out by SUNNY CITY which on jumping shifted out abruptly. In this incident, PRIDEOFTHEORIENT became unbalanced. ACCELERATOR was a little slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between COSMO SUCCESSOR and WIKI WIKI which shifted in. Near the 1000 Metres, when being taken back to a position with cover, PRIDEOFTHEORIENT got its head up. Also near the 1000 Metres, LAMBRO was steadied away from the heels of WITHALLMYHEART. At the 1000 Metres, SUNNY CITY got its head up, shifted out abruptly and was checked away from the heels of LAMBRO which at this time shifted in. Some inconvenience was caused to ACCELERATOR which was following. After this, SUNNY CITY continued to race ungenerously and making the turn at the 800 Metres hung out badly and shifted ground, causing some inconvenience to PRIDEOFTHEORIENT which as a result was checked when racing ungenerously. As a result of this incident, WIKI WIKI was hampered and carried wider. The performance of SUNNY CITY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUNNY CITY will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. M W Leung (BEAUTIFUL CHOICE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of LAMBRO, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked severely. M W Leung was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 23 April 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). This suspension is to take immediate effect. At the 600 Metres, STEP TO WIN got its head up when racing close to the heels of CENTURY SUPER STAR. ACCELERATOR, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of STEP TO WIN. Also at the 600 Metres, MONTY was steadied away from the heels of LAMBRO. In the middle stages and in the Straight, LAMBRO hung out. At the 500 Metres, MONTY was steadied away from the heels of CENTURY SUPER STAR which when giving ground shifted out. After this, MONTY was not able to obtain clear running and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race. For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, DR CANDY had difficulty obtaining clear running between ELEGANCE LUCKY and CENTURY SUPER STAR. B Prebble (ELEGANCE LUCKY) explained he had to make some use of the horse in the early stages to cross CENTURY SUPER STAR. He said after the 800 Metres he crossed to the fence in the lead and in his opinion was running at a reasonable tempo. He said when BEAUTIFUL CHOICE improved around his outside at the 500 Metres he elected to allow that runner to cross to the fence in the lead as in his opinion he would have been required to ride ELEGANCE LUCKY along to hold his position. He said ELEGANCE LUCKY has breathing problems and he felt it was in the best interest of the horse to allow it an opportunity at this stage. He said in the early part of the Straight ELEGANCE LUCKY responded to his riding, however, over the concluding stages failed to finish the race off. When questioned regarding BEAUTIFUL CHOICE racing in a forward position today, Mr Y S Tsui, trainer of the horse, said the instructions today were the same as when the horse last raced in that if possible obtain a forward position. He said last time from a wide barrier BEAUTIFUL CHOICE did not show speed in the early stages and therefore was taken across behind runners. He said in future if circumstances permit he will instruct riders to have BEAUTIFUL CHOICE in a forward position. STEP TO WIN and LAMBRO were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SUNNY CITY had bled from both nostrils.
